AuLora Record of Bountiful on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to AuLora Record. Check out our conversation below.

AuLora, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A common misconception in the hair industry is that we simply “work for fun.” While it’s true that we love what we do, it’s important to remember that this is a job—a professional career that provides our livelihood. Many people enter beauty school thinking it’s an easy path to success, not realizing the level of expertise and commitment required.
The reality is, being a hairstylist demands more than just technical skill. We must master color theory, act as chemists, become skilled photographers, excel in marketing, and develop strong business acumen. We’re also part therapist, motivational coach, and sometimes even our own cheerleaders. It’s a 24/7 responsibility that requires dedication, hard work, and constant learning.
Unfortunately, many students enter beauty school unaware of the multifaceted nature of the profession. As a result, only about 10% of beauty school graduates actually remain in the industry long-term.
For those who do stay, the first five years are critical. If you can make it through that period without giving up, you’re more likely to build a lasting career in the hair industry. But this path isn’t for everyone, and it’s certainly not as “easy” as it might seem from the outside.
If hairstyling were truly easy, anyone could do it—but not everyone can. Just like you wouldn’t ask a dentist to treat a broken bone or a police officer to bake a birthday cake, you come to a professional for expert service. While I fully support DIY efforts, it’s important to understand that if things go wrong, the cost of repairs can be significant.
I love my job and am deeply passionate about what I do. Not every day is perfect, and that’s okay. But I can’t imagine myself in any other career. Hair is my life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is AuLora, and I’ve had the privilege of working in the hair industry since 2019. As a fully certified cosmetologist, I have specialized in a range of services, including hair color, corrective color, updos and event styling, curly hair, fine and thin hair, and extensions.
I am currently pursuing further education in Trichology, a specialized field focused on the study of the hair and scalp. This advanced certification will allow me to offer expert care for clients dealing with hair loss, thinning, scalp disorders, and other hair health concerns. My goal is to bridge the gap in our industry by providing clients with the support and solutions they may not have access to in most salon settings.
With the knowledge I’ve gained so far, I have been fortunate enough to help many clients regain their confidence, and this has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I’m deeply committed to continuing my education and expanding my ability to assist those who feel they’ve exhausted all other options.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most profoundly shaped my sense of self is my marriage. From the very start, my husband saw potential in me that I could never have recognized on my own. He has never held me back; instead, he’s consistently encouraged me to push forward and keep striving. He’s been my unwavering support, my rock during moments of doubt, and the voice that reminds me to trust my own instincts when I second-guess myself.
I truly believe that the bond my husband and I share is something rare and special. Unlike many couples, we have never been afraid to give our all to each other. We entered this partnership with the understanding that it was all or nothing—and we have remained committed to that promise every step of the way. The love we share is profound, and in our relationship, love is the constant. While many couples face struggles, when I look at my marriage, I see nothing but love and support.
Disagreements are minimal, and we always have each other’s backs. Right now, we are navigating a challenging period, as my husband has been out of work for some time, and I have stepped up to take on more responsibility. Yet, even through this hardship, I feel incredibly blessed to be facing it with him. There is no one else I would rather share this journey with. His strength and resilience have taught me not only to love him but also to truly appreciate life itself.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of not being good enough can be overwhelming. However, I’ve come to understand that what truly matters is being good enough for myself—not for anyone else. It was a difficult realization, but once I accepted my imperfections and chose to prioritize self-respect and personal growth, life became simpler and far more enjoyable.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I believe the world has created a false narrative around what it means to be “picture perfect.” As a result, many people struggle with low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and body dysmorphia. The rise of advanced AI and unrealistic beauty standards has only made it harder for individuals to recognize their own worth and natural beauty.
My mission in this career is to help people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. I always say, “I’m only enhancing the beauty you already have,” and I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart.
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing someone reconnect with themselves—to feel beautiful again, to feel seen. Helping others regain that inner confidence is what drives me, because we all deserve to feel strong and secure as we navigate this beautiful, challenging journey we call life.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I’m someone who lives with an all-or-nothing mindset. I give my all—in life, in my work, and especially to every client who sits in my chair. I believe in living without regrets, and that means showing up fully, every single time.
When you’re in my chair, you have my complete focus. Nothing else matters but making you feel seen, heard, and confident. Some say I care too much—but I see that as both a blessing and a strength. That deep level of care is what makes the experience unique. It’s not just about the hair; it’s about connection, trust, and making sure you leave feeling like the best version of yourself.
Whether it’s your first appointment with me or your hundredth, you’ll always be the star of the show. Because we only get one life—so why not make it beautiful?
