Julie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Loneliness. As a keynote speaker, I’ve traveled all over the United States talking to all kinds of audiences. What’s become clear to me is how badly everyone needs human connection, and how many people are struggling because they lack it. After I speak, I have people approach me with all sorts of professional success in the business world, who confide that they are deeply unhappy because they don’t have authentic relationships in their life. It’s because of this consistent feedback in my work as a speaker that I started my company, I See You Living. In our business, everything we do is rooted in human connection. We know that the way to restore mental health and resilience in our workplaces, homes, and communities is human connection.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a human who’s been deeply impacted by the power of human connection.
My life didn’t go as planned. I’ve had times where I felt overwhelmed, unseen, and unsure of how to keep going. But in those moments, something incredible happened—people saw me. Not in a surface-level way, but with compassion, presence, and love. That human connection didn’t just help me survive—it restored my mental health and completely changed the direction of my life.
Because being seen changes everything.
Telling those stories became my healing. And over time, it became my calling.
That’s how the I See You podcast was born- a space to share real, vulnerable stories that remind us we’re not alone, and that connection has the power to heal not just individuals, but entire communities.
I wrote about these stories in my first book, I See You: How Compassion and Connection Save Lives and again in my next one (this one’s for the kids) Broccolipunzle: A Girl with Extraordinary Hair. I know every person- young or old- can uncover greater joy when they live the I See You way.
Because being seen changes everything.
As a keynote speaker, I travel across the country speaking to audiences about how to strategically utilize human connection to restore resilience and retention.
While speaking to these audiences, you know what I found out? No matter the profession, race, or economic status-almost everyone I talked to expressed the same need.
To feel seen.
At I See You Living, we answer that need. Because around here, connection isn’t just something we talk about—it’s how we live.
Whether you cross our path because you’re looking for a community, resources, or products, I’ll be glad you found your way to I See You Living. You’ll belong here.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
It’s become too common in our world to disconnect from others because of labels we’ve created and falst perceptions we believe about those labels. The way we restore human connection is proactively choosing to see others as humans instead of a threat when we find differences between us. Getting closer to someone’s true story not only helps us feel more connection to them, it also helps us feel greater compassion for them.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I miss my sister, Amy, deeply. Amy was my best friend; she died from cancer 3 years ago. I’ve learned that when tragedies strikes, it changes you forever. You never go back to your life before, because you’re different forever. The journey becomes about carrying the sadness with you in a way that reminds you that life is invaluable and relationships are everything.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
That feeling seen as a human instead of a number or label solves almost all mental health and resilience issues in our culture at large. For this reason, we’ve developed a group at I See You Living especially for women who are looking for a community that shares the goal of human connection.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Everything that matters. My relationships with other people, my faith in deity, and my memories.
