Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandy Myers.
Hi Mandy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing bookkeeping when I was just 16 working in my dads footing/foundation business. I worked there until 2005 when my dad sold the business to my husband. My husband and I have continued to run the business to this day. In 2016 I decided to start my own business helping small contractors like my husband handle their day to day bookkeeping using QuickBooks. M&M Bookkeeping was created and started with just two small clients. I continued working and through word of mouth and my QB ProAdvisor status I was able to continue to grow my business up to 36 active clients and during tax season I take on several clean up clients and tax prep clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been challenging at times but I have been very blessed to have such an amazing clientele that the bumps have been very minimum. One of the things that are unique in my business is I have and create close working relationships with all my clients and we communicate regularly so that has helped minimize struggles.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is one a person show. I am the CEO and the Employee. I specialize in small businesses because I was raised in a small business household and my husband and I continued that tradition. I have worked in the field for 30 years now and I do my best in my business to take the stress and frustration of bookkeeping and tax prep so that my clients can focus on other aspects of running their business.
My services are completely customizable to each company. I offer my services in a package deal or just piece by piece. Small businesses can pick and choose which services they need.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I am a risk taker for sure. Back in 2016 when I decided to start the business I was working with my husbands business still and I was a full time office administrator for a big software company in my small town. One day I decided I was tired of working in the big corporate world for someone else and because of my love for bookkeeping and small businesses I left my comfortable salary job with two small clients who needed some help and took the leap and M&M Bookkeeping was started. My first year I was able to get 10 clients that needed my help and finally I felt like I was helping others doing something I loved. The risk was worth the rewards.
I also fish professional bass fishing tournaments on my free time. I take risks in fishing every time and that has always helped me in my business. My clients are all so supportive of my dream and they follow and cheer me on when I head out to fish.
