Exploring Life & Business with Craig Tyrrell of GAJO Games

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Tyrrell.

Hi Craig, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have a background in History, and I have always had an interest in miniature wargaming. We started off by offering pre-painted historical miniatures and eventually opened a retail store that is now GAJO Games.

GAJO Games is a game store that focuses on miniature tabletop games, based on historical periods and also fantasy and science fiction backgrounds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Operating a retail business can be challenging, but the interaction with customers around a set of product lines that you love is very rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Miniature wargaming is an incredibly creative hobby. Customers assemble their soldiers and vehicles, paint them, and then recreate battle on a tabletop using realistic terrain.

We offer a tremendous selection of products to support them, and we provide demonstration games and interactive classes for beginners to learn the hobby. We have dedicated space and amazing terrain for them to play on as well, and host clubs as well as individuals for gaming and hobby events.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Sandy is a wonderful city to live in and a great location for a business. The overall quality of life is excellent, and the city works very hard to keep a safe environment, and to support local businesses.

Our biggest problem as a city right now is lack of affordable housing, and I hope that the government’s plans to address this succeed in making progress.
