Community Highlights: Meet Michelle Jorgensen of Living Well with Dr. Michelle and Total Care Dental and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Jorgensen.

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started out like most dentists—trained in traditional dentistry and proud to help people smile. But about fifteen years in, my own health started to fall apart. I couldn’t sleep, my hands tingled so badly I could barely hold my instruments, and I was in constant pain. Every doctor visit ended with the same line: “You’re just stressed.”

I was so sick I almost sold my dental practice and walked away completely. But before I did, a holistic dentist asked if I’d ever been tested for mercury poisoning. I laughed—after all, I didn’t even have any silver fillings! But when the test results came back, my mercury levels were off the charts. The problem wasn’t in my mouth—it was in my patients’. Every day I’d been drilling out mercury fillings, breathing in the vapor, and slowly poisoning myself.

That moment changed everything. Instead of quitting dentistry, I decided to relearn it—from the ground up. I dove into holistic and biologic dentistry, nutrition, and traditional healing methods. I became a Board-Certified Naturopath and Therapeutic Nutritional Counselor, and I started asking a different question—not “What supplement or medicine should I take?” but “What do my cells need to be well?”

That question became the foundation of my work—and eventually my book, Living Well with Dr. Michelle. Today, my practice, Total Care Dental and Wellness, has grown into one of the leading biologic dental centers in the country. Patients come from all over the world to heal not just their teeth, but their whole body.

My journey started with getting sick from the very thing I was trained to do—but it taught me something powerful: your body already knows how to heal. You just have to listen, remove what’s getting in the way, and give your cells what they need to do what they’re made to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all—and honestly, I wouldn’t have learned what I know now if it had been.

When I first got sick, I was completely blindsided. I had spent years building my practice, raising four kids, and doing everything “right”—so when my health started crumbling, I felt betrayed by my own body. I couldn’t sleep, my brain was foggy, and I was in pain every day. No one could tell me why. That’s a terrifying place to be—especially as a doctor who’s supposed to have the answers.

The years that followed were full of trial and error. I tried everything—Western medicine, alternative medicine, diets, detoxes, and more podcasts and books than I can count. Some things helped, many didn’t, and it was frustrating. I also had to face the reality that I was the cause of my own illness—mercury exposure from my dental work. Admitting that was hard.

Rebuilding my health took time, humility, and a willingness to question everything I’d been taught. I had to rebuild my career, too—transforming a traditional dental office into a holistic wellness center before most people even knew what that meant. There were skeptics, setbacks, and plenty of raised eyebrows.

But I kept going because the results were undeniable—both for me and for my patients. The struggle became my education. It taught me that health isn’t a straight path or a quick fix. It’s a partnership between you and your cells, your body, and the earth that sustains you.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Living Well with Dr. Michelle and Total Care Dental and Wellness?
At Total Care Dental and Wellness, we do dentistry differently. We believe your mouth is the gateway to your entire body—so we don’t just fix teeth, we help people heal. Our practice has become one of the nation’s leading centers for biologic and holistic dental care, known for combining advanced technology with a deep understanding of how the mouth connects to the rest of the body. Patients travel from all over the world because we look for the why behind every symptom—offering safe mercury removal, airway and sleep solutions, and full-body wellness care that restores health from the inside out.

That same philosophy lives at the heart of Living Well with Dr. Michelle. After getting sick from mercury exposure myself, I set out to find the real path to healing—and discovered that it all begins at the cellular level. What I learned became the foundation for my book, Living Well with Dr. Michelle, which helps people learn how to interpret their symptoms, discover what their cells need, and return to natural wellness.

But when I started applying these principles in my practice, I realized there was a problem: I couldn’t find products that actually supported healing at the root cause. So, I did what any determined doctor would do—I started making them myself, right in my own kitchen! Those early recipes became the foundation for the Living Well with Dr. Michelle product line—natural tooth powders, mouthwashes, elixirs, and seasonal wellness blends—all designed to work with the body, not against it.

What sets both Total Care Dental and Wellness and Living Well with Dr. Michelle apart is that everything we do is connected to a single goal: to help people live well so they can live their purpose. We bridge modern science and ancestral wisdom to make health simple, approachable, and lasting—from your mouth to your mitochondria.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that the body already knows how to heal—we just have to get out of its way.

For so many years, I thought healing meant finding the perfect supplement, the right procedure, or the newest program. But the real breakthrough came when I realized that health isn’t something we add to the body—it’s something we uncover. When we remove what’s blocking our cells—things like toxins, stress, and processed foods—and give them what they need—nutrients, rest, connection, and purpose—they naturally return to balance.

That understanding changed the way I practice, parent, and live. It’s why everything I do through Living Well with Dr. Michelle and Total Care Dental and Wellness is built around one idea: if you help the cells get well, you get well. It sounds simple, but it’s profound. True health isn’t complicated—it’s cooperative. You and your body are on the same team.
