Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallorie Sorce.
Hi Mallorie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to become a therapist, but at the time, I didn’t really understand what that path entailed. The idea of earning a master’s degree felt intimidating, especially since I hadn’t done particularly well in school. So instead, I decided to pursue something creative and people-oriented and enrolled in cosmetology school.
I became a licensed hairstylist and discovered that I loved the personal connections I built with clients. Working behind the chair helped me grow in confidence, discipline, and empathy. It taught me how to listen deeply, connect with people from all walks of life, and get comfortable with not being the right fit for everyone. At the heart of everything I do, whether behind the chair or in the therapy room, has always been connection. I’ve always been drawn to helping people feel seen, understood, and more confident in themselves.
A few years into my career, and shortly after my husband and I got married, I felt ready to finally chase the dream I’d put on hold. He had just finished his college degree, and his encouragement gave me the push I needed to go back to school. While continuing to work full-time as a hairstylist, I started college and began the long but rewarding journey toward becoming a therapist.
Doing both at once wasn’t easy, but the balance actually prepared me well for the field I was entering. Cosmetology had already given me the ability to hold space for others and connect authentically, and now education was giving me the structure and theory behind what I’d been doing naturally for years.
During graduate school, I interned at Wasatch Family Therapy, where I was supervised by Clair Mellenthin. That’s where I truly began to blossom as a therapist and discovered my passion for working with couples, something I never expected to love.
In 2019, I earned my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and spent the next four years at the EFT Clinic, where I specialized in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and began working toward certification. That experience deepened my love for couples therapy and my understanding of emotional connection and repair.
In 2023, I opened my own private practice, Healing Hearts Counseling, in Murray, Utah, while also beginning my Doctorate in Sexology through Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. My work with couples inspired me to expand my expertise because I believe everyone deserves a healthy, fun, and fulfilling sex life, and I wanted to provide the best care possible. My goal with Healing Hearts Counseling has always been to create a warm, inclusive space where people feel safe to explore both emotional and sexual intimacy without shame.
My husband and I purchased an office condo with six offices, and I launched my practice in one of them and rented the others to colleagues. I earned my EFT Certification in 2024, became a UAMFT Supervisor, and took on my first intern/employee that December. Today, Healing Hearts Counseling has four wonderful employees, and we’ve expanded into two additional offices in the office condo we own. Watching my team grow and thrive has been one of my proudest achievements.
Most recently, I completed my doctoral project, a 16-episode podcast called Complex Sex, which explores pornography in context. The series examines pornography through psychological, relational, and cultural lenses, aiming to reduce shame and promote informed, compassionate dialogue about sexuality. I created Complex Sex because I wanted to bring honest, research-based conversations about sexuality to the public without shame, stigma, or sensationalism. The podcast launches in November 2025, just as I graduate with my doctorate.
I’m endlessly grateful for my husband, who has supported me every step of the way. We’ve been together for over 15 years, and our relationship, imperfect yet deeply connected, continues to fuel my passion for helping others build meaningful, resilient love. I’m also deeply thankful for my family and friends who supported me through every step of this journey, celebrating milestones, offering encouragement during the hardest moments, and believing in me long before I fully believed in myself. I’m equally grateful for the mentors, teachers, and supervisors who guided me along the way and helped shape me into the therapist and leader I am today.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep growing Healing Hearts Counseling, mentoring new therapists, and helping more individuals and couples build relationships that are emotionally connected, sexually fulfilling, and grounded in compassion.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have definitely been ups and downs along the way. As anyone who’s gone through years of schooling knows, it can be frustrating, overwhelming, and hard to stay motivated at times. There were moments of anxiety and plenty of hoops to jump through. Technology has never been my strong suit, so I’m especially grateful for my tech-savvy husband who patiently helped me navigate those challenges.
While the road was long and often difficult, I managed to work full time for most of it, maintain a fun and active lifestyle, and continue traveling and adventuring along the way. I’m proud that I didn’t have to put life on hold while pursuing my goals. I say that not to brag, but to encourage others that it is possible to do hard things. You just have to take it one step at a time, keep your eyes on the bigger picture, and make space for joy and fun along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Healing Hearts Counseling. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Healing Hearts Counseling is a private group therapy practice based in Murray, Utah, specializing in couples therapy, relationship healing, and sexual intimacy. Our team helps individuals and couples navigate challenges around communication, disconnection, infidelity, desire differences, and out-of-control sexual behaviors using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and sex-positive, shame-free approaches.
What sets us apart is our focus on creating a warm, inclusive space where clients can explore both emotional and sexual intimacy without judgment. We believe that healthy relationships are built on secure emotional bonds and open, honest conversations about sexuality. My team and I are passionate about helping people build those deeper connections, whether they’re healing after betrayal, reigniting passion, or simply learning how to feel closer and more understood.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the atmosphere we’ve created at Healing Hearts Counseling. Our offices are designed to feel comfortable, calm, and inviting, because therapy should be a place where people exhale, not feel intimidated. I’m also proud of the incredible team I’ve built: clinicians who share the same heart-centered, evidence-based approach to healing.
Beyond therapy, we’re continuing to grow through community partnerships and educational projects, including collaborations with local organizations and my upcoming podcast, Complex Sex, which brings honest, research-based conversations about sexuality to the public.
Ultimately, Healing Hearts Counseling stands for connection, compassion, and courage, helping people heal their hearts, strengthen their relationships, and embrace pleasure and intimacy as vital parts of a healthy, fulfilling life.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
There have been so many incredible people who have influenced and supported me throughout this journey. One of the most impactful has been Clair Mellenthin, who supervised me during my internship and continues to be a huge mentor and source of encouragement today. John Robbins has also played an important role, first as one of my graduate professors, then as a trainer I’ve continued to learn from, and most recently as a committee member for my doctoral project. I’ve grown tremendously through his wisdom and guidance over the years.
I’m also deeply grateful to Dr. Jenn LeFebre, who served as my Doctoral Chair, and Dr. Kate Balestrieri, a committee member, for their support, insight, and mentorship throughout my doctoral program. Their guidance helped shape both my project and my professional growth.
Of course, my husband has been my constant anchor, standing by me through the long hours, tears, frustrations, and victories. His belief in me has been unwavering, and I truly couldn’t have done any of this without him.
I also want to acknowledge my incredible team at Healing Hearts Counseling. Their dedication, compassion, and shared commitment to helping others have made this practice what it is today. It’s such a privilege to lead and work alongside clinicians who bring so much heart, skill, and authenticity to their work.
There are countless others, including colleagues, friends, and family, who have shown up for me in so many ways. I am endlessly thankful for the community that has helped me build the career, business, and life I have today.
