Hi Shauna and Nick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For 24 years, Nicholas and I have loved the idea of travel, but we faced the same challenge as so many others: the expense of flights. The dream of exploring the world felt perpetually out of reach, and we knew that if the cost of flights was a barrier for us, it was probably a barrier to many others who wanted to travel but were unable.
Our personal situation made us think that there had to be a better way to make global exploration possible and more accessible—specifically with flights. This led us to acquire SoarFare.
We didn’t just want to sell flights; we wanted to provide a structured, innovative solution. Our mission is to create flexible travel solutions that help people plan ahead and save better.
SoarFare’s strength lies in its innovative monthly subscription tiers. This system helps anyone strategically and reliably save points, transforming a large, immediate cost into an achievable long-term goal. It’s a method that empowers all to travel, explore, connect, and discover a world within reach. We believe in fostering connection—with new places, new cultures, and most importantly, with our family.
Our business is built on two core values: Curiosity and Fulfillment. We want to spark the natural curiosity in every person, giving them the means to act on their desire to see the world. When a subscriber uses their accumulated points to book that dream trip, it’s the ultimate sense of fulfillment—both for them and for us.
For us, SoarFare isn’t just a business; it’s the realization of a life goal, providing the pathway for our community to connect meaningfully with the world. We are proud to be a Utah-based company helping people save for the flights that will literally take them anywhere.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting SoarFare felt like a massive leap of faith. Honestly, our biggest struggles weren’t about the product itself, but about the act of becoming entrepreneurs. The fear of failure was real—it weighed heavily on Nicholas and me as a couple, as we constantly worried about the upfront cost and the massive time commitment. Because SoarFare is truly innovative, we also faced a steep learning curve on the marketing side. That’s when we decided to bring in Brett as our head of marketing. With his help we’re figuring out exactly who our target audience is and, more importantly, how to clearly communicate our unique value proposition to secure those first crucial subscribers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am no stranger to the entrepreneurial hustle. My love affair with flowers began at age 17, eventually leading me to launch Bloomin’ Idiots Floral, an in-home studio I started when my oldest daughter was just eight months old. For ten years, I also balanced this with teaching elementary school PE—the perfect “mom job” that allowed me to be at school with my three daughters and home when they needed me most. My focus has always been on combining meaningful work with my most rewarding job: being their mom.

Nicholas brings a complementary discipline forged through a lifetime of effort. He learned the value of intrinsic motivation early, starting with milking cows at 3 am at the age of 12. This strong work ethic propelled him through his MBA and into the corporate world, where he has become an executive in the banking/credit union industry.

While I have the established entrepreneurial spirit and he has the corporate rigor, launching SoarFare is our first business venture together. We are a team committed to proving that hard work isn’t just about professional success; it’s about building the means to truly enjoy life and explore the world as a family.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
We are pretty new to entrepreneurship ourselves – but if we had to summarize our journey down to a few key lessons, here’s what we’d tell anyone who’s just starting out:

Embrace the Hard Truths

The biggest wish-we-knew-sooner lesson is this: It will always take more time and cost more money than you anticipate. That initial risk you take needs to be financially and emotionally braced for. You have to be ready to embrace the grind—there are no shortcuts in entrepreneurship, and persistence is your most valuable currency.

Be Strategic, Not Reckless

While the fear of failure is real, it can’t paralyze you. You have to be willing to take the risk, not recklessly, but strategically. That means you absolutely must have a plan—it’s your roadmap when the inevitable challenges hit. Your plan also has to be flexible enough to adapt to life’s changes. And perhaps most importantly, find a mentor. We didn’t prioritize this early enough, and having someone a few steps ahead to guide you around pitfalls is priceless.

Prioritize Alignment Over Balance

Our biggest piece of advice, especially as a husband and wife team with a family, is about both embracing discomfort and ensuring you have total alignment. Entrepreneurship doesn’t just happen in a vacuum. You need to ensure you are fully committed to your personal life, your professional life, and your entrepreneurial life. If those aspects aren’t aligned and fully committed, you’ll burn out. Commitment to all three is what sustains the hard work and ensures that the journey ultimately fulfills your goals.
