Inspiring Conversations with Nancy Taylor of Taylormade Senior Advocacy & Consulting, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Taylor.

Nancy Taylor

Hi Nancy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in small town America. My family owned the corner drugstore where my dad was the trusted pharmacist; where everyone knew each other and “healthcare” meant listening, caring, and following through. Watching him help people taught me early on that being a pharmacist wasn’t just about dispensing prescriptions — it was about dispensing HOPE.

After more than 20 years as a pharmacist and patient advocate, I realized something wasn’t working. People were leaving their doctor’s office with more questions than answers. Medications were mismanaged, care was fragmented, and families were drowning in the details. I wanted to fix that.

That’s how Taylormade Senior Advocacy & Consulting LLC was born — out of a belief that healthcare should feel personal, not impossible. I left the counter behind and started helping clients one-on-one to navigate their healthcare with clarity, confidence, and control.

Today, as a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA), and Certified Senior Advisor (CSA), I combine clinical expertise with advocacy — designing personalized healthcare action plans, attending appointments alongside clients, and educating families on how to take charge of their care.

I feel it is important to not only work in a field but to support its growth, which is why I also serve as Vice President of the National Association of Healthcare Advocacy (NAHAC) and lead educational seminars across the country for caregivers, professionals, and organizations who want to bring humanity back into healthcare. My work is built around one guiding principle — that every person deserves to understand their care and make decisions from a place of HOPE: Helping Others with Purpose and Empowerment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
3. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Smooth? Hardly. Independent patient advocacy is still a growing profession, and when I started, most people didn’t even know they could hire a private advocate — someone who works for them, not for the system. I had to build awareness from the ground up while juggling the realities of running a business.

The healthcare system can be intimidating and impersonal, but that’s exactly why I keep doing this. Every time a family goes from feeling helpless to confident — that’s the win.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

What sets me apart?
I bridge the clinical expertise of a pharmacist with the independence of a private advocate — meaning my only priority is my client’s well-being. I don’t answer to hospitals, insurers, or systems. I work for you. That independence, paired with 20 years of clinical experience, gives my clients what they’ve been missing from traditional healthcare: a clear plan, an informed voice, and genuine peace of mind.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The independent patient advocacy field is growing rapidly. The Patient Advocate Certification Board (PACB) has helped set national standards, while organizations like National Association of Healthcare Advocacy (NAHAC), Coalition of Health Care Advocacy Organizations (CHCAO), Greater National Advocates (GNA), and HealthAdvocateX continue to expand visibility and collaboration.

In the next decade, independent patient advocacy will become as common as having a financial planner — someone you hire proactively to keep you informed, protected, and confident. I expect to see more certified advocates working side by side with health systems and more employers adding advocacy services to employee benefit programs.

We’re moving toward a model where advocacy isn’t an afterthought — it’s an essential part of safe, effective healthcare.
