Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Sandoval.
Hi Mike, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, life hit me hard at an early age. I’ve been through my share of struggles — mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. For a long time, I felt like I was fighting battles nobody could see. As men, we’re taught to stay strong, keep it together, and not show weakness. But the truth is, that pressure can break you inside.
Music became my outlet — my way to speak when I didn’t have the words. I started rapping not just to tell my story, but to speak for others who are living that same fight every day. My music is storytelling — it’s about struggle, growth, faith, and finding light when all you see is darkness.
Through all of it, God found me in my pain and showed me peace. That’s why I make songs that give Him glory — because without Him, I wouldn’t have made it this far. My mission now is to reach the broken, the hopeless, the ones battling in silence. I want people to know they’re not alone — that healing and purpose are possible.
My latest song, “One Call”, is dedicated to men struggling with depression and mental health. It’s a reminder that sometimes all it takes is one call, one message, or one act of kindness to change someone’s whole day — maybe even save their life.
I’m not just making music — I’m building bridges through truth and faith. I want my story to remind people that no matter how dark it gets, there’s always hope. If I can help just one person find peace or feel understood through my songs, then I’ve done my job. After my father passed away, I lost myself. By the age of 11, I was running with gangs, smoking weed, and drinking — trying to numb the pain I didn’t know how to deal with. I was on a path of destruction, using the streets and substances as a crutch just to get by.
But even in my brokenness, God had a plan. I started putting all my pain and real-life experiences into my music — what I call storytelling struggle music. Writing songs became my therapy and my way of letting it all out.
I started recording with my brother Alex Segura — at first, just in his bedroom with a mic in the closet. That’s where we built the foundation for what would become Custom Made Music. Over the years, we turned that dream into a real studio and a movement.
As time went on, I started growing closer to God. My heart changed, and so did my music. Now I use my voice to spread the Word of God and share messages of hope, healing, and redemption. I started a series called “Breaking Bread with Big Mic-E,” where I read scripture and talk about how God is working in my life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a rough road over the years. For a long time, I didn’t have a place to truly call home. I spent years couch surfing, staying wherever someone would let me sleep. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for every person who opened their door and offered me a place to rest — their kindness kept me going during some of the hardest times in my life.
During those years, I battled depression and turned to drinking as a way to escape the pain. I thought that was the only way to cope, but deep down, I knew I was just running from myself. Life felt like an uphill battle, and I couldn’t see a way forward.
Everything started to change when I picked up the Bible again. As I began reading, something inside me shifted. I realized that Jesus had been there all along — waiting for me to turn to Him. I discovered that He had better plans for my life than I could have ever imagined.
Through His grace, I found strength to overcome my depression and break free from addiction. It wasn’t easy, but it was possible because of Him. Today, I have peace, purpose, and a renewed sense of hope. I’m living proof that no matter how lost you feel, Jesus can turn your life around.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in good luck or bad luck. I believe that everything we go through in life has a purpose. Sometimes, we have to face storms and challenges not just for ourselves, but so that one day we can help others who are walking through similar struggles.
There was a time when I didn’t understand why certain things were happening to me, but now I see that God was preparing me — shaping me into someone who could use my gifts and experiences to bring hope to others. Today, I use my talents to remind people that no matter how rough the storm may be, you can make it through. God can turn your pain into purpose and your struggle into strength.
