Community Highlights: Meet Meredith Villalba of Color Compass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Villalba.

Hi Meredith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Color Compass in 2021, during a time when so many women — myself included — were reevaluating who we were and how we wanted to show up in the world. What began as simple curiosity about color analysis quickly became a calling. I was captivated by the way color could transform not just how someone looked, but how they felt — confident, seen, and fully themselves.

I trained and certified through True Colour International, diving deep into the science and psychology of color harmony. What I discovered was that this work isn’t about fashion or vanity — it’s about identity. When a woman sees herself clearly, everything changes: how she dresses, how she moves through her day, even how she takes up space in the world.
From my little studio in North Salt Lake, Utah, I began seeing clients one-on-one, and word spread quickly. Women started driving hours for appointments and even flying from outside states occasionally. I am so incredibly grateful for the now thousands of clients who have shared their experiences with friends and family to help grow this business into something that brings immense joy!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road — but every bump shaped and continues to shape the business into what it is today.

When I started in 2021, color analysis wasn’t widely understood, and I was introducing something that required trust. I had to educate my community from the ground up — explaining the why behind it, not just the what. It meant putting myself out there constantly, creating content, testing, refining, and building credibility one client at a time.

There were seasons of doubt — learning to price my services with confidence, balancing family life while building a brand, and trusting that consistency would pay off. As a creative and an entrepreneur, I had to learn to wear every hat: marketer, designer, coach, strategist.

But every challenge forced me to refine not just my business, but my voice. I realized this work wasn’t just about color — it was about helping women rediscover themselves. Once I embraced that mission fully, everything started aligning: the right clients, the right partnerships, and a sense of purpose that makes the journey worth it.

We’ve been impressed with Color Compass, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What makes Color Compass unique is the balance of precision and soul. Every analysis is grounded in the science of True Colour International’s draping method — done in natural light and precision calibrated drapes, with meticulous attention to detail — but what truly sets the experience apart is how personal and transformative it feels.

This isn’t about trends or perfection; it’s about harmony. I take time to teach each client not just what works, but why — empowering them to use their colors confidently in real life.

Clients often tell me it feels like “coming home to themselves.” That moment — when a woman sees her reflection and finally recognizes the version of herself that’s true — that’s what makes Color Compass special. It’s more than a service; it’s a shift in how women see themselves.
I offer makeup services as well so my clients can finally nail a lipstick color, and offer suggestions for hair tones, and provide follow-up digital resources for further study as well! It’s a ton of fun and even better when you come with a friend, which is my suggestion!
So grateful for clients who have so far left only 5 star Google reviews, because I really do care about the person in the chair and have a teacher’s heart and experience.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’ve been diving into Carl Jung recently at Depth psychology Hub on YouTube for inspiration into the heart and soul of personal image identities. People are just downright fascinating!
