Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavish Hubbard.
Hi Tavish, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a single, teenage mother who dropped out of college at 19 and now I am a therapist who founded a small private practice almost 3 years ago. I have worked all over the place searching for where I belong when I finally found a home in Social Work in 2012. I have worked in medical and law enforcement settings, in government settings, and in child welfare. I first was introduced to Social Work when I volunteered at the local detox shelter teaching art classes to people going through withdrawals. I knew I wanted to be a therapist after running a recovery court as a caseworker and I was fascinated by the work people were doing in their own trauma therapy processes. Therapy has been life changing for myself and those around me, I feel so blessed to be able to provide that same trauma healing for other people.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely been a difficult road. Being a single mother, I had to do college full time while also working full time and taking care of my kiddos full time. All of it was hard-finding internships that worked with my schedule, trying to do my own therapy work and self reflection, and staying present in all areas of my life simultaneously.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say I am first and foremost a trauma therapist. I am certified in EMDR and am a Consultant-in-Training working on teaching others how to utilize EMDR therapy. I also use a variety of other techniques like CBT, DBT, IFS, and psychodynamic depending on what the client needs, and sometimes can blend these with EMDR for deeper healing. I am known for my focus on attachment healing, and for remembering even the small details from my clients. I am so proud of my practice Hubbard Wellness Group and the therapists and students who I am so very lucky to supervise. Our work is different in that every therapist here works with complex trauma while also focusing on overall and whole person wellness-hence Hubbard Wellness Group.
