Today we’d like to introduce you to SaQuoyah Boxx.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I did my recreational therapy internship at CGOA in 2018. After that, I was the activity coordinator, left for 9 months during Covid then came back Feb 2021 as the Program Manager and became the Program Director in Spring 2023.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part it has been a smooth road. With CGOA being a small non-profit, funding is something that we are always on.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist). I have the opportunity to use my certification on every activity that we run as well as in overseeing new interns.
My favorite part of the job is when someone (participant or family) thinks that they can’t do something and I get to show them that they can. It may just look a little different than what they are used to seeing.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
