Today we’d like to introduce you to April Estel.
Hi April , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the Coachella Valley in Southern California where my family had a construction business for about 30 years. My dad was the general contractor, my mom was the bookkeeper and I was eventually the office manager when I was older. I learned the intricacies of homes from start to finish, and all that goes into them. This is where my love of homes comes from. Fast forward a couple decades, and my husband and I moved to Utah in 2014 to start a life together and now have three beautiful daughters. We opened our first restaurant in 2018, and then moved locations to our highly successful cafe on Main Street in Heber, called OG Cafe. We won 11 Best of State Utah awards over the years. We had a huge, loyal following and gave back any chance we could, from charities to toy drives, serving on local committees, and fund raising events for veterans and their families, we are deeply rooted in our local community. Together we ran a restaurant for the last 8 years until recently selling and transitioning back to a normal life and pace, and spending more time with our children. We have been buying and selling real estate ourselves since 2014, and a few years ago, I decided to branch out and do something for myself and become a real estate agent. I just love finding the right home for my clients, going to bat for my sellers, and the feeling of accomplishment when all parties are happy and we close the deal. I joined Davis Coleman Realty here in Heber, they have been serving the Heber Valley for over 40 years. I work with the best team of agents, most of them born and raised right here in the Heber Valley. My broker, Mark Davis, gives moral support, education, weekly statistics meetings and inspires me to be the best agent I can be, for myself and my clients. Together we have extensive knowledge and experience with real estate here in the Heber Valley and surrounding areas. I am not afraid to travel to get the job done for my clients. I am a very down to earth, honest person. When I am working with clients, I am extremely dedicated, detail oriented, and big on communication. Communication is key! I absolutely love what I do and that my life has come full circle, from building homes, to buying and selling them for my clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My real estate journey has been smooth. Its a lot easier when you love what you do. But the struggle would be the economy over the last few years. When I got licensed, the world was just re-adjusting to life after Covid. Interest rates had been at an unprecedented low, and then jumped high. So many unknowns and fear still lingering really slowed real estate down due to an unstable market. Now we are starting to see the rates come down a bit, but a challenge is educating our clients on rate stability and understanding that they will not go back down to the 3% rates and that it was not normal. You really have to look at interest rates historically to get the full picture. A lot of buyers are waiting on the sidelines for the rates to come back down and thats just not the case. Real estate is like a teeter totter, when rates go down, home prices go up, rates go up and home prices soften again. I think we will have a better picture of what the market will be doing for 2026 by next spring. The local market does slow down here in Utah during the winter months with all of the snow. But life still happens and people still need to move whether there is snow on the ground or not, and I am here for them!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being a secretary for so many years for my parents really gave me a lot of the skills and business ethics that I have today. My professionalism and integrity, attention to detail, love of research and paperwork and ability to connect with my clients, really sets me a part from other agents. My clients have said they appreciate my tenacity for finding answers and following through. I am known for giving my all and going the extra mile to make sure my clients are heard, and taken care of. My parents have both passed on, but I believe they would be proud of the career path I have chosen and all that I have accomplished.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories are from when I was about 10 and our family would have a big, annual, family reunion campout at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. We would have about a dozen campsites all with different family members. Cousins playing, best camp kitchen contest, kite making, fishing, and cribbage tournaments. We would end the week with a big bon fire and ice cream social. Best of times for sure.
