An Inspired Chat with Stacey Millhorn of Park City

Stacey Millhorn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Stacey , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions is that infrared sauna should only be used when the weather is cold! Infrared is a safe, invisible wavelength of light that enhances physical, mental and emotional health year round. Infrared sauna is different than traditional sauna because it heats you at a cellular level instead of just heating the air around you. Our Sunlighten full-spectrum infrared saunas have three different wavelengths of light: Far, Mid and Near. They have patented their far wavelength! Far infrared is known to improve immunity, detoxification (30% greater than traditional sauna), weight loss and relaxation. Mid infrared improves sleep, mood, hormone regulation, heart + brain health as well and reduce acute + chronic pain. Near infrared improves skin health by promoting natural collagen production, anti-aging benefits, wound healing and reduction of acne. Infrared light is so safe that they use is in the NICU to keep new born babies warm. Lastly, you need to be close to infrared for it to be effective, so all our our saunas are private with infrared surrounding you.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I was raised in Florida and started a 27 year career in pharmaceutical sales there after attending Florida State University. I met my husband and we were married in 2012. Our path led us to Nashville where we spent five years. Due to COVID, I was a talking head on an iPad, so we decided to live in Park City for a month. During that month, we fell in love with the area, mountain living and decided to make it home. We have lived in Utah for about four years. When we moved to Utah, I could not find anything like the Pure Sweat experience, so we decided to open a studio in Redstone/Kimball Junction. The Park City lifestyle is incredibly active year round, so the community was excited about a “recovery” studio. We offer full-spectrum infrared saunas by Sunlighten, the industry leader in infrared, and float therapy. All of our sessions are private and accommodate two people, if desired. Infrared sauna benefits have become more well known with the biohacking and longevity movement becoming more popular and mainstream.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom always told me that I had an entrepreneurial spirit. After spending 27 years working in the corporate arena and working for large companies, I am finally experiencing entrepreneurship. Even working in pharmaceutical sales, I had the opportunity to run my territory as a small business to exceed sales goals.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
We closed a business after almost two years of struggling to make it work. Over the course of the two years, I tried everything imaginable to help it succeed. During that time I felt a lot of guilt and shame not being able to get it to “take off”. I was determined to make it work because I had always been successful in the past by hustling and using creative thinking. Toward the end of the two years, I began to share with friends and family that I was burnt out and felt like it was a dead end. Instead of being hard on me or telling me I needed to try harder, they shared with me that this was not meant to be for me and that they supported me no matter what the outcome. It made me realize that failure happens more than we realize, especially in small business and having the courage to speak vulnerably with people close to me actually provided me with the support and love that I needed during a difficult time.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Balance. I am an introverted/extrovert and not only need, but value time in our home recharging my batteries. Large crowds and constant engagement runs me down and overwhelm my nervous system. My nieces and nephews even know my favorite thing is being cozy. I enjoy cuddling on the couch with our dogs in comfy blankets and being in our home. Owning a business makes this incredibly challenging because many times I am the person picking up shifts or handling issues seven days a week. However, when I can find the time to relax I am truly grateful.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! I am my own worst critic. Some may say a perfectionist, which I am trying to work on at a personal level. I have high expectations for myself and my team members. As mentioned previously, I had a very successful career that lasted 27 years in an industry that always asked for more. Each quarter, new and higher sales goals. Constantly being asked how did you grow professionally during the last year and then being stacked up against your peers to fight for a merit increase. I am self motivated and strive to be excellent without anyone telling me to do so.
