Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Tutor.
Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Indigo Highway is a Modern General Store consciously curated for the Mountain + Desert Lifestyle. We are proud to stock and support over 100 indie-brands and artists creating everyday luxuries. The mission behind the name Indigo Highway – when we look at the blue skies above and the blue waters below, they encompass the Indigo Highway in our mind. This “Highway” connects all of us on this planet, and when we think about the world this way, we like to think we are all more alike than different. On a lighter note, we believe in sourcing the highest level of craftsmanship all over the globe to bring this curated collection to Park City. We started Indigo Highway in 2016 and are approaching our 10th holiday season. Personally, I’ve been in and around fashion for all of my professional life. I attended FIDM in Los Angeles and immediately went to work in the entertainment industry, with a focus on fashion editorial and personal celebrity styling. Our favorite thing by far is the people who become part of our lives through Indigo Highway. We have such a wonderful community, and we are privileged to be a part of their lives. We also have an incredible group of women who are all responsible for how wonderful Indigo Highway truly is and we couldn’t be more grateful to spend our days together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Luckily, we have grown every year since opening, knowing what a privilege it is to have been so fortunate. All businesses have challenges, and we’ve had our share, but it’s been a great ride so far with few regrets. The biggest challenge was COVID being closed for 10 weeks, and we weathered it as best we could, and our community responded with gusto when we reopened.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been in and around fashion for all of my professional life. I attended FIDM in Los Angeles and immediately went to work in the entertainment industry, with a focus on fashion editorial and personal celebrity styling. Clients have included the likes of George Clooney, Jack Nicholson, Pamela Anderson, Demi Moore, Denzel Washington, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many more. Dean, my husband and partner, was a photographer and producer and we worked together on many shoots. We also have been consultants for years, helping brands with their creative content. One shoot happened to be with Karl Malone in Utah. We knew immediately we wanted to make Utah our home and moved here over 20 years ago. I am most proud of the relationships we’ve built with this business in and out of our community and helping other small brands flourish. Not sure what sets me apart from others, I think we’re all trying to find our way in this world. Looking forward to what the future brings.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was creative as a child, drawing on every wall in my room. My parents thought it might be a good idea to get me to some art classes. I would put on local fashion shows and was involved in the drama department. I wanted to find a way of combining the love of travel, discovery and creativity, professionally. I am beyond grateful to have a partner to share this journey with and it wouldn’t be possible without him.
