Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Gewondjan.
Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path to founding Angels Landing Foundation really began long before we ever became a nonprofit. Horses have always been a central part of my family’s life, and over the years I watched how they naturally brought out confidence, calm, and connection in people—especially children who struggled emotionally, socially, or behaviorally.
What started as simply opening our barn to a few kids quickly revealed a much bigger need in our community. Families shared how their children were learning to communicate, regulate emotions, trust, and build confidence in ways they hadn’t been able to achieve anywhere else.
So Angels Landing grew into a place that offers not just equine therapy, but also mentorship, community, and life-support resources. Today, we serve individuals of all abilities and create a safe, uplifting environment where people can heal, grow, and discover their own strength through the incredible bond with horses. It’s been a journey built on love, purpose, and the belief that healing happens through connection.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth definitely isn’t the word I’d use. Starting and running Angels Landing has required a lot of faith, perseverance, and hands-on hard work. There were times early on when we questioned how we’d cover feed bills, session equipment, or insurance. Growing a nonprofit from scratch—especially one that involves horses, facilities, and specialized programming—comes with very real logistical and financial hurdles.
There were emotional challenges too. We work with individuals who carry deep trauma, behavioral struggles, or complex diagnoses. Supporting them in a meaningful way requires patience, education, and constant learning. And as a founder, juggling family life, community needs, and nonprofit growth often felt overwhelming.
But through every struggle, we’ve been reminded why this work matters. Each breakthrough, each smile, each moment of confidence or healing for our participants has turned the hardest days into fuel.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Angels Landing Foundation?
Angels Landing Foundation is a nonprofit that provides equine-assisted therapy, emotional support, mentorship, and community resources for individuals of all abilities—especially young adults and children with special needs. We specialize in helping people build confidence, communication skills, emotional regulation, and trust through the powerful connection between humans and horses.
What sets us apart is our blend of equine therapy with genuine community support. We don’t just offer sessions—we offer belonging. We’re known for creating an environment where participants feel safe, valued, and understood.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Angels Landing represents heart, healing, and hope. Our readers should know that every donation, sponsorship, and session directly impacts someone’s life. We exist to help people feel capable, confident, and supported, and our programs are designed to meet individuals exactly where they are.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always someone who felt deeply and cared deeply. I was the kid who noticed when someone was struggling or sitting alone, and I couldn’t help but step in. That sensitivity shaped so much of who I became—empathetic, protective, and always wanting to bring comfort, connection, or a sense of belonging to others.
I was also incredibly independent and driven. I loved animals, especially horses, and found peace and grounding in caring for them. Being outside, staying active, and having responsibilities gave me confidence and purpose from a young age.
Creativity was a big part of my world too. I was always imagining new projects, organizing little groups, or dreaming up ways to make things better.
Looking back, it’s easy to see how all of those pieces came together. My heart for people, my connection to animals, and my natural instinct to lead and nurture are the same qualities that drive Angels Landing Foundation today. Everything I loved—and everything that shaped me—growing up has become part of the mission and heart behind the organization.
