Inspiring Conversations with TaLynn Young of Radiance Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to TaLynn Young.

Hi TaLynn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In April of 2016, I graduated cosmetology school and moved 300 miles away, unsure of what my career would look like in the beauty industry. I found and started at a corporate salon. After being there for 5 years, once covid hit, I realized I was ready for more freedom. I had built up a clientele enough to feel confident to start my own business and begin booth renting in another salon. So I did. I booth rented from a newly opened salon, and helped them build their commission stylist structure, as I had ran it at the corporate salon.
After being there for 2.5 years, learning and growing more I moved to a salon suite where I put focus on really creating my brand. During this time I dove into learning more of the business side while helping to mentor past co-workers in the steps to take to go out on your own.
This led me to feeling an “itch”, to find a space to not just tell others how to grow, but to build and prepare a place for others to come and work alongside me as they did it (booth rent and run their own business).
This is where Radiance Salon came into being, it opened in July of 2025, a dream come true (a month before having my 3rd child). A space for stylists to come together in a positive work environment; learning, growing, and changing the industry by community over competition.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not entirely, once I decided I was ready to open a salon it took a while to find an actual space that fit my vision, and budget. Even then I had to negotiate and practically beg the property to take the ‘risk’ on me to allow me to sign the lease. Once we were in we went through months of hiccups with the city to bring the space to code and ensure we followed all regulations to open. During this time, my original plan of being only a booth rental salon shifted as well. And while I’ve helped manage commission salons in the past, setting up the structure and beginning that process for myself brought a new set of challenges I wasn’t intending to take on so soon.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Radiance is a full service hair salon, also offering nails & facial waxing. Over the years I’ve heard clients frustrated in having to go to multiple places for their beauty services so we decided to create a one stop place again! Entering into Radiance isn’t just about coming in for a quick haircut, our goal is to ensure you are listened to and leave the salon feeling confident and happy with your service. We take our time to listen to your needs and advise with our professional expertise to meet your expectations every time.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Give yourself permission, no one else is going to do it for you. Permission to dream big and take every step towards the dream. You are not the first to want to go big, find those who have done it before you. Follow their lead, ask questions, learn from them in every way possible.
