Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Todoran of HAPS Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Todoran.

Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my career as a landscape architect, trained to think in systems, long timelines, and human-scale consequences. Over time, I realized that many designers doing meaningful work struggled not because of a lack of quality, but because their ideas were not being clearly communicated or understood. That gap led me to photography, filmmaking, and eventually public relations. Today, through HAPS Agency, I work at the intersection of design, storytelling, and strategy, helping architects, landscape architects, and creatives translate their values and work into narratives that build trust, credibility, and long-term relevance.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My path has been an evolution shaped by service, curiosity, and craft. I began in the military, where I learned discipline, responsibility, and the importance of teamwork. That foundation carried me into art and photography, which sharpened my eye for composition, story, and human experience. I later trained as a landscape architect, learning to think in systems, ecology, and long-term impact. Today, I bring those perspectives together through my work in storytelling and public relations, translating complex ideas into clear, meaningful narratives.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about HAPS Agency?
HAPS Agency is a public relations and storytelling studio serving the architecture, landscape architecture, and design community. We help firms articulate their values, work, and point of view with clarity through strategic PR, photography, and narrative development. What sets us apart is that we come from inside the disciplines we represent, with backgrounds in design, photography, and production, so we understand both the work and the culture. We are most proud of building long-term, trust-based relationships and helping thoughtful practices gain the recognition they deserve without compromising their integrity.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have found that the most effective mentors emerge naturally through shared work rather than formal outreach. Showing genuine curiosity, doing good work, and being generous with time and attention tends to open doors over time. Networking, at its best, is simply building relationships through consistency, respect, and follow-through rather than transactional exchanges.
