Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Asherman And Calli Sorensen.
Hi Amy Asherman and Calli Sorensen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Amy – I am originally from Park City and have been at the Align Spa since 2003. I started as the receptionist and a massage therapist, working my way up to director and was given the opportunity to purchase the spa last year. I am also a registered nurse and have opened a small med spa within the spa called Align Elevated.
Calli – I started with Align Spa as a massage therapist in 2006. I began my journey in 2006 at the spa as a massage therapist, gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of the business. Over time, I took on increasing responsibilities and advanced into a leadership role, eventually becoming the spa director. Purchasing the spa, marks a significant milestone in my professional growth and commitment to the business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being open for 22 years, there is no way it would be a smooth road. We have stayed open through the market crash, expansion, remodel, and a pandemic and continue to thrive no matter the issues that arise. We started with a small 10-15 person staff and now have around 40 people including therapists, esthiticians, front desk, and management.
As you know, we’re big fans of Align Spa / Align Elevated Medspa. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a locally rooted day spa, women own and run. Oldest spa in Park City that is not affiliated with a hotel/resort.
Many of our staff have been with us for over 15 years.
We place top three every year in Best Spa, Best Massage and Best Facial in the Park City’s Best Awards.
Align Spa offers swedish massage, sports massage, couples massage, cupping, lymphatic drainage, hot stone massage, prenatal massage, customized facials, microdermabrasion, hydrafacial, microneedling, dermaplaning, peels, body waxing, lash lifts, body treatments, and a hair & scalp treatment.
Align Elevated offers botox injections, dysport injections, mini and full lip filler. (Medical spa product line coming soon)
We offer memberships and bundles at a discount for clients that want to come in more regularly.
We make it a priority to participate in local events, whether through direct involvement or charitable donations, as a way of giving back to the community.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
One of the biggest risks we have taken has been committing to the long-term growth and stability of the business despite constant uncertainty. Over 22 years, the spa has faced major challenges, including the market crash, periods of expansion, a full remodel, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Choosing to stay open, invest in the business, and continue supporting staff during these times required significant financial, operational, and personal risk.
We also took risks by expanding our team and services, growing from a small staff of 10–15 people to nearly 40 employees today. Each phase of growth required trusting our vision, adapting quickly, and making bold decisions to ensure we not only survived difficult periods but continued to thrive regardless of the obstacles we faced.
