Life & Work with Kathy Roberts of Sandy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Roberts.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am currently the Director for Hilltop Christian School in Sandy, UT. I have always loved teaching, people of all ages, and have finally found a position that utilizes all of my skills, as I also have extensive experience in management and human resources.
I have always been driven to push for “more” in any of the positions I have held. I come from a mixed family, my mother is an immigrant from Japan, and I believe that has instilled in me a desire to continuously learn and grow. I am the first in my family to attain a college degree and academics were always a priority in my household.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have struggled with finding a schedule that gives me a good life/work balance. I wanted to be sure to be available for my daughter as much as possible, while still managing a challenging career.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
During my time at Hilltop, I have strived to create an education space where the child comes first. I believe that small class sizes and individualized attention is something that is missing in education today. Our retention rate for teachers is quite high and our families appreciate the consistency that comes with a happy staff.
We have recently expanded our program through fifth grade, due to family requests, as the parents in our community are not always able to find something similar for their children in other schools. This has been a challenging endeavor, but I am proud of what we have already accomplished and I look forward to even more success as we work through this process.
