Today we’d like to introduce you to Rylan & Terra Peranteaux.
Hi Rylan & Terra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’ve been in business together since high school. This time around, the goal was to build something that supported our family and gave us flexibility, involvement, and long-term sustainability.
We moved to Logan to attend Utah State with Rylan earning degrees in business administration and marketing, and Terra studying English. We fell in love with Cache Valley, decided to stay, and started our family here. Since getting married five years ago, we’d explored a handful of small business ideas, but none quite felt right or took off.
A couple of years ago, Rylan came home from work talking about a post he’d seen on laundromats and how the most profitable ones offered wash and fold services. We love dreaming together and talking through ideas as if anything were possible—and often, that process helps us see how a dream can actually be made feasible. We started imagining a pickup and delivery wash and fold service that would help families in the community while keeping startup costs low and the risks manageable.
With our four-month-old sleeping in a carrier, we built a website, partnered with a local commercial laundry facility, and launched Cache Laundry Co.
Then we waited.
We mailed postcards, shared on social media, and heard nothing. Then one day, out of the blue, we got our first customer. From there, things slowly grew. Over the next year, we learned every part of the business hands-on—from registering the business and onboarding customers to customer service and operations. We took turns doing pickup and delivery—Rylan on his way to and from work, and Terra with a sleeping (or not-sleeping) baby in the back seat. There were many late nights of folding laundry, but we loved that we were building something together.
As the business grew and we were expecting our second child, we decided to hire part-time help. That meant restructuring how we operated and learning the realities of managing employees. With guidance from business-owning friends and family, we hired our first employee, then another as demand increased. We experienced significant growth and felt like we were hitting our stride.
Then everything came to a screeching halt.
Within a two-week period, a large number of our customers moved away, and we found ourselves barely breaking even. While it was incredibly frustrating, it ended up being a blessing in disguise. The slowdown gave us space to step back and evaluate the business as a whole. We tightened our systems, improved our workflows, clarified our processes, redesigned our website, and intentionally built a stronger, more cohesive brand. A couple of months later, business picked back up—and it has been steadily climbing ever since.
In our second year, we tripled the size of the business compared to year one, and we’re on track to double it again in our third year. We’ve learned a lot from working every part of the business and we’re excited about future growth and opportunities to continue serving Logan professionals, families, and visitors.
We’ve worked with everyone from busy professionals, Utah State organizations, the elderly, rodeo stars, visiting artists and contractors, families, Airbnb owners, and local cleaning and massage businesses. After all, everyone needs their laundry done—and we love taking one everyday burden completely off people’s plates. Hearing, “You have no idea how much this helps me,” never gets old.
We’re incredibly grateful for the friends and family who have supported us, offered advice, and shared their expertise. We dream of building a business that becomes a Logan staple—known for hard work, high standards, and a legacy we can pass on to our family.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. We’ve experienced high highs and low lows—from unbelievable customers seeming to appear out of nowhere, to dream contracts falling through, to losing nearly 70% of our customer base in a matter of weeks.
Each challenge has taught us the importance of perspective, patience, and resilience. We’ve learned not to make life-altering decisions based on a single high—or a single low—and to continually step back, evaluate what’s working, what’s not, and adjust accordingly. Bootstrapping a business with very little capital requires grit and flexibility, and we’ve learned that long-term success often comes to those willing to ride things out, learn quickly, and keep refining.
We’ve been impressed with Cache Laundry Co., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cache Laundry Co is a pickup-and-delivery wash-and-fold laundry service based in Logan, Utah. We specialize in helping busy professionals, families, students, short-term rental owners, and local businesses by taking laundry completely off their plate. Customers schedule online, we pick up their laundry, professionally wash, dry, and fold it, and return it clean and ready to put away.
What sets us apart is how personal and intentional our service is. We’re a family-run business that has built Cache Laundry Co from the ground up, and we care deeply about consistency, reliability, and high standards. Laundry is a very trust-based service, and we take that seriously—from how we handle clothing, to clear communication, to dependable turnaround times.
We’re also known for our straightforward, reliable pricing. Customers know exactly what to expect, with no hidden fees or surprise charges. We’ve intentionally built our pricing and systems to be transparent and easy to understand, so people can trust not just the quality of the service, but the cost as well.
Over time, we’ve refined our workflows so the entire process is as simple and stress-free for our clients. We work with a wide range of customers, from Utah State organizations and Airbnb owners to busy families and local service-based businesses, and we pride ourselves on being flexible, responsive, and consistent.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the reputation we’ve built in the Logan community. Much of our growth has come from word-of-mouth, and hearing how much time, energy, and mental space our service gives back to customers is incredibly rewarding. We’ve worked hard to build a brand that feels approachable, trustworthy, and genuinely helpful.
We want readers to know that Cache Laundry Co exists to support the people who live and work in Cache Valley. Everyone has laundry, and for many people it’s a constant source of stress or time pressure. Our goal is to remove that burden and give people more time for the things that matter most—whether that’s family, work, rest, or simply a little breathing room in a busy week.
What were you like growing up?
We were both entrepreneurial and driven from a young age—and still are. Rylan started an ice-cream business at age ten with a loan from his parents, and Terra ran a dog-walking and house-sitting business. In high school, we started a lawn-mowing business together.
Through those experiences (and many small ventures along the way), we learned how to communicate clearly with customers, negotiate, problem-solve creatively, understand the value of a service, and work together as business partners.
We both come from families with entrepreneurial parents and grandparents, so we grew up believing that if you were willing to work hard and learn along the way, owning a business was possible. We also saw both sides of entrepreneurship—the flexibility and independence, but also the responsibility. When something needs to get done, you’re the one doing it, even if that means late nights or weekends. It’s not for the faint of heart, but we love the independence and flexibility that come with building something of our own.
