Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbye Sandman.
Hi Bobbye, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been a pastry chef for over 25 years, a passion I have been so fortunate to pursue. I spent 10 of those years as the lead pastry chef at Deer Valley Ski Resort, and I truly loved my experience there. I created recipes, baked delicious pastries, designed custom cakes, and shared my passion with others. I left Deer Valley to pursue a new venture and start my own business, HoneyBCakes, and it has been incredibly rewarding. I have been able to focus on my family, create and maintain personal clientele, and provide specialized products to my customers. I absolutely love helping people design and customize their cakes… our goal is to create delicious memories! It is important to me that my clients are included at every step and that their vision comes to life when they see their final products. I am grateful to be where I am today and thoroughly enjoy stepping into my bakery ready to create.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: “Suck it up, buttercup!” Keep your end goal in sight, work hard, and keep going. Unexpected challenges will come, but they usually make you stronger and more focused.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my bakery, I make a wide variety of cakes, wedding cakes, pastries, breads, and specialty baked goods. I have a particular passion for creating custom cakes – where I work closely with my clients in detail, design, flavor, and vision. As far as I’m concerned, we are only limited by our imagination! My passion runs deep, and I truly care about the product that my clients receive – down to every detail. I always work hard to ensure their expectations are met and their vision comes to life. I use local, high-quality ingredients that truly make a difference in my recipes, even if they are not the cheapest or most readily available. I think that extra step sets me apart from others. I like my products to taste even better than they look – flavor is most important. I work hard to ensure that every flavor is recognizable in the final product and remembered by those who experience it. Whether it’s an elaborate wedding cake, a chocolate croissant, or a loaf of rosemary focaccia bread – I want the quality, presentation, and flavor to be the best possible.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
In addition to my custom-made items, I am currently selling a variety of products at The Stock Exchange in Kamas, UT. The items we have available are: frozen chicken pot pies with hand-laminated puff pastry, frozen shepherd’s pies topped with buttery mashed potatoes, and three varieties of frozen pizzas, each made with garlic-rosemary focaccia crust. Additionally, artisan breads, brown butter granola, truffles, cookies, and never-constructed cakes.
I am currently making desserts and focaccia bread for Galeano’s, a new Italian restaurant in Heber City. The desserts include tiramisu, panna cotta, Italian rainbow cookies, and Setteveli cake.
I work closely with Old Town Cellars in Park City, UT, to provide custom hand-dipped truffles in a variety of flavors that accompany their specialty wines.
I am continuing another year of making custom wedding cakes for Deer Valley Resort. I love working with my clients and having such a memorable part in their special day.
COMING SOON! I am so excited to share that I will be opening a morning-only bakery in Heber City, UT, next month. We will be selling breakfast sandwiches, a variety of coffee, and delicious handmade pastries. We will be open from 8 am to 11am every day and will provide high-quality food on the go. We are excited to open to the public very soon! I am grateful to meet and work with so many wonderful people who come together over the love of good food.
