Today we’d like to introduce you to Pro Pet Care Clinic GeriLyn Beard.
Hi Pro Pet Care Clinic, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Pro Pet Care opened its doors in May of 2023. Starting with a staff of 10 we hit the ground running hoping to provide some pet care relief to our community. We began with helping a handful of rescues and clients focusing on spay/neuter services with some dentals. Working with the Best Friends feral community voucher program, helping us to supply vaccines, aiding trappers and rescues we have expanded to a team of 20 and are working with rescues throughout the state. We have also expanded our client base to include all of Utah, along with parts of Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. Our services have also expanded to more detailed services like offering sealants and x-rays for dentals. And incorporating more core vaccines options for our clients. We are always looking for ways to help our furry patients stay happy and healthy while keeping the price reasonable for our clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trying to build a clinic from the ground up, within a budget is an adventure. With the rising cost of supplies and products you have to work through the obstacles. Also, staying on top of technology and the ever changing medical practice keeps you on your toes.
It has been hard with the Veterinary shortage throughout our Nation. There is such a demand for pet healthcare and not enough Vets to provide that. Many clinics are booked out for months trying to stay on top of scheduling. It is especially hard for a spay and neuter clinic to find doctors as the surgical schedule is demanding and the hours long. It is not for the faint of heart.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
GeriLyn was raised on a farm/ranch in West Point, Utah. There she fell in love with animals learning to care for them and getting to know their quirks and personalities, she passed that love on to her children and grandchildren.
Heidi has always loved animals and convinced her parents to let her raise a guide dog puppy for the blind and has since raised 8 puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind. She has always wanted to be a veterinarian and has recently been able to continue that quest thanks to the support of her husband and children.
GeriLyn and Heidi began working with rescues and the community about 17 years ago with another clinic. When that clinic closed its doors they knew that there was still that need to help. To provide spays/neuters, dentals, vaccines and much more to rescues that were trying to do their best in providing healthcare to the many homeless pets out there. Also, to the community providing affordable healthcare to their own beloved pets.
Specializing in the “maintenance” end of vet care Pro Pet has helped thousands of animals stay healthy and happy since opening their doors. Many feral cats have been fixed, vaccinated even treated for sickness that would never have had the opportunity had Pro Pet not opened the doors. Even volunteers in the community are jumping on board, being educated and providing much needed care to these fur babies.
Thanks to an amazing hardworking staff, we are able to keep up with the demands of pet care, and the long hours. It’s all worth it when you see the happy dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and know that you are making a difference in their lives.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Animals accept you no matter what. They love you unconditionally. Even when you dont give them the time
or attention they deserve they are always there for you. Giving slobbery kisses or head boops, or just a warm hug. And they adore you for who you are. Who could ask for more. Dogs and cats are the best therapy for anyone trying to heal from trials health problems or just needing love. Someone needs to be their advocate. Helping animals is definitely the most rewarding thing a person could do. Nothing will bring you more joy than the love of an animal. They are what makes the world a better best!
