Exploring Life & Business with Joseph Bishop of ReRoofIt Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Bishop.

Hi Joseph, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in the construction industry at 19 as a framer in 2004. This work was grueling, but some of the most valuable when it came to knowledge of the structure of homes and buildings, and my work as a general contractor later on.

I then moved on to work as a prep laborer for a nationwide builder and quickly worked my way up from sweeping out houses to backend superintendent work, then superintendent work to project manager, procurement and buying.

I worked with a variety of construction companies and homebuilders that specialized in both residential and multifamily as well as light commercial and civil projects. My roles at these companies focused heavily on the coordination between all the different trades as well as being the linchpin between architects and on-the-ground construction. I oversaw projects, built from the ground up, for multi-million dollar developments over the course of a decade.

At a point, I decided to go out on my own as a general contractor and founded my own company. Through my company, I established myself with full home remodels, which included basements, bathrooms, kitchens and general home makeovers. I also worked on home exteriors, which lead to the creation of ReRoofIt in 2013.

Here is an overview from a company standpoint and why ReRoofIt was created:

Our story began with an undeniable need for honesty, integrity and quality work.

Years of working in the roofing industry uncovered a number of problems that seemed all too common. Unethical business practices plagued the trade and the customers that trusted these roofing companies suffered the consequences.

– Damage to property from unlicensed and uninsured crews.

– Leans on homes enforced by material providers when company owners failed to pay their bills.

– Poor safety training that resulted in high injury and death rates.

– Improper waterproofing that resulted in damage to the rest of the house.

– A lack of understanding and care for how a roof system ties into the full scope of the house.

– Taking the money today and being long gone when poor workmanship resulted in the need for premature repairs.

ReRoofIt was created in 2013 to disrupt the status quo and raise the standard of roofing quality across the state of Utah.

Integrity is at the helm of everything we do and drives our mission for change.

Every roof we install is built to keep our customers homes safe and stand up to manufacturer warranty requirements. When you decide to work with ReRoofIt, you will be working with a roofing contractor that is not only licensed and insured but one that truly cares.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While I had extensive construction experience by the time I decided to establish my own company, there were unexpected learning curves along the way.

Some of the challenges I overcame include:

– Economic collapse of 2008, which heavily impacted the construction industry. Especially new developments, many of which came to a grinding halt.
– Finding and keeping quality labor to meet the quality standards I was set on keeping.
– Learning how to ask for help rather than being a one-man-show and tapping into the skillsets of others.
– Establishing myself as a teacher/leader rather than fulfilling work on my own.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
While we specialize in roofing services, we hold general contractor licensing, which means we have a deep understanding of each of the trades that go into the construction of your property. With decades of experience in construction, we can tackle some of the most challenging projects that involve additional trades that other roofers may not have the experience to take on.

When you work with ReRoofIt, you gain the peace of mind that comes with knowing that we have the proper licensing and insurance state requirements. You will also be working with a roofing contractor that has an A+ BBB rating, is Gephardt Approved, and is certified with several of the top material manufacturers in the roofing industry.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I grew up in Sandy, UT, and I love that I have the opportunity to work with the residents of this city and the surrounding neighborhoods. My childhood home was near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, allowing me to experience the outdoors in a comprehensive and fulfilling way.

While I love a good deal of things about this city, and our state, I could do without the winter smog.
