Community Highlights: Meet Zach Arnold of Arnold Quality Metal Works

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Arnold.

Hi Zach, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Zach Arnold and I am the MFCEO of Arnold Quality Metal Works, an Ornamental Metals Fabricator for Commercial Construction, based in Logan, Ut.

I live in Logan, Utah with my Gorgeous Wife of 17 years and our 4 amazing children.

Since the time I was a small child I can remember being fascinated by Metal and the Craftsmen that work this amazing material.

When I was a teenager, my growing love of motorcycles and all things awesome ignited my pursuit of the skills required for such dreams. I began taking Welding classes at my local Technical College.

Upon completion of my schooling, I set off into the workforce, learning and honing my skills over the next decade, building everything from handrails and structural steel, to containers to ship nozzles for Space Shuttle Rockets and Barrier systems to protect US Navy ports around the World. I have built Wireline Trucks, Gangways for the USS George Washington, High Pressure Compression Systems to open new Gas Fields in the Middle East, and countless other varying projects covering many Industries.

It didn’t take me long to realize the what Industry Standards had labeled as acceptable Quality Levels, and what I thought Acceptable Quality was, were two different things.

Over the years I learned that doing lower quality work, skipping steps, cutting corners all in the name of saving money, producing an inferior product, or spending hours on rework was not the way things should be done. I didn’t believe in it, and I know I’m not alone in my thoughts.

So in February of 2017 I founded Arnold Quality Metal Works, based on the following Core Values:

Honor. We do what’s right, even when it is not the Easy choice.

Pride. In the work that we do, paying attention to every detail. Pride in the things we are able to accomplish through Power of Will.

Respect. For our work, for the processes, and for our daily interactions.

Discipline. This is the oil that keeps our finely tuned Machine moving forward and progressing.

Ingenuity. We will solve any problem that we face. We provide solutions, not excuses.

Industriousness. We focus on the task at hand, and Conquer every Mission we Accept. We will outwork Everyone!

Attention to Detail. In all aspects of Life and Business, we know that nothing but our absolute best is acceptable.

This is more than just a Welding and Fabrication Shop, This is a Way of Life.

“It’s Not Just Quality, It’s Arnold Quality.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Year 2 in business we landed a contract to build ~ 4,500 feet of brushed stainless steel guardrails for the new parking garage at the Salt Lake City International Airport. At the time of landing the contract, the company was only 2 people. We hired 10 people that year and experienced explosive growth over the next few years. We faced many growing pains and challenges that ultimately helped forge us into a stronger organization. As all businesses have experienced, Cash flow has been a recurring challenge throughout the years, especially with the long pay cycles associated with commercial construction.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are an Ornamental and Architectural Metals Fabricator for commercial construction, specializing in non-ferrous metals.

We have completed work on 6 LDS Church Temples; Raleigh North Carolina, Memphis Tennessee, Port-au-Prince Haiti, Helena Montana, Casper Wyoming, and Elko Nevada, and are currently working on the Lone Mountain Temple in North Las Vegas Nevada. Work ranged from Custom Aluminum Window Transoms to Bronze Guardrails.

Other notable projects include Stainless Rails at the Salt Lake City Airport, Glass Balcony rails at the Residences at St. Regis in Park City, Multiple updates to the Delta Center including glass and Stainless Steel railings, architectural metals for The Asher Adams Hotel, and Anodized Aluminum rails and stairs for Water processing facilities in Oregon and Arizona.

How do you think about luck?
I’ll start with a quote from Thomas Jefferson: “I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.”

Luck plays a big role in what has transpired in my life and business. It was luck that allowed me to be born in the greatest country on the planet. It was luck that landed me in my chosen career field. It was luck that I met my wife and built an amazing family.

Because luck is where opportunity and preparation meet.
