Today we’d like to introduce you to Keaton Schrank.
Hi Keaton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Pantry to Porch was founded by Brigham Young University students during the COVID-19 pandemic as a volunteer initiative to deliver groceries to individuals experiencing food insecurity. What began as an emergency response effort quickly revealed an ongoing critical need within the community. Since then, Pantry to Porch has continued to address the transportation barrier faced by many food-insecure community members, maintaining one simple yet powerful directive: to deliver food and necessities from food pantries directly to those facing barriers to accessing food.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any community organization, there have been challenges, but we are so fortunate and grateful to have the support of so many incredible community members and local partners. In the nearly six years that Pantry to Porch has been operational, the demand for our services has continually increased; this means that more individuals and families in our community have relied on us to help them meet their basic needs. We are continuously making adjustments and setting new goals for ourselves to ensure that we are serving as many people in our community as possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pantry to Porch. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pantry to Porch’s mission is to be the final step in solving food insecurity and hunger across the Wasatch Front by mobilizing volunteers to deliver food directly from local pantries to individuals and families with barriers to accessing food. Operating in Salt Lake County and Utah County, Pantry to Porch ensures that vulnerable populations have reliable access to food and necessities. We partner with local food pantries and volunteer networks to provide free home delivery services to individuals and families facing barriers to accessing food. Compassion and care are the core values that drive Pantry to Porch. We believe that when basic needs are met, individuals and families are better equipped to thrive. At its heart, Pantry to Porch strives to ensure that everyone within its reach has access to the food they need.
Together with its partners and volunteers, Pantry to Porch is building a seamless system that transforms community generosity into meals on the table for those who need them most. Pantry to Porch partners include the Utah Food Bank, Murray Children’s Pantry, Crossroads Urban Center, Jesus Feeds, and Tabitha’s Way (North and South). These partnerships enable us to efficiently source, coordinate, and deliver food directly to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Pantry to Porch fosters resilient, diverse, and inclusive healthy neighborhood food environments by reducing barriers to food through our food delivery program and is another pathway for marginalized individuals and families to access affordable, nutritious food. By removing transportation barriers and bringing food directly to those who need it most, Pantry to Porch strengthens community well-being, ensuring that no one goes hungry simply because they cannot reach a food pantry.
In 2025, Pantry to Porch made over 4,800 deliveries in Utah County and Salt Lake County, totaling over 217,000 meals delivered directly from local food pantries to community members’ homes at no charge. Of the over 12,000 clients that were served by our program in 2025, 34% were children and 95% lived in low-income households. We hope to continue reach more of the individuals and families in our community who are experiencing barriers to accessing food as we move into 2026 and beyond!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Pantry to Porch is incredibly grateful for the work and support of our amazing volunteers, who contributed over 7200 volunteer hours in 2025! We couldn’t do the work that we do without the support of our community and our partners, including our hundreds of volunteers in Salt Lake County and Utah County. If folks are interested in volunteering, we have many different volunteer shifts available. Volunteering with us is flexible; you choose the time and location that works best for you!
