Conversations with Zach Toothaker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Toothaker.

Hi Zach, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a artist since I could remember never really grew out of it which was great for my personality and the way was able to look at the world use to always tag on my arms wrist to shoulder legs as well i absolutely love the style of graffiti trains and building became libraries to me i practice my name and words then created characters so many self portraits in that style of artwork it was like painting poetry to me I was 19 when I purchased my first machine and started tattooing friends I would study artists that would tattoo me and ask questions probably drove them crazy at times but I wanted to learn and develop a craft of my own I put it on pause for a while and had 3 amazing kids then jumped back into it to show them chasing dreams can pay off while still working warehouse jobs along the way I met my beautiful wife that let me create lasting art work on her and she pushed me even harder to make this my career even held down the entire family while I made this permanent she is so incredible for that time I’m extremely grateful for her because of it then tailored decided to add on to there barber shop with a tattoo shop that I wanted to jump aboard and be apart of this amazing establishment they’ve created I wanted to be the greatest new school graffiti tattoo artist for the longest time until I went to my first tattoo convention and was able to be placed next to a booth where this artist was creating this incredible leg piece of a lion and a warrior all realistic I came back to the shop and wanted to try portraits with a twist of new school style in it and of course my first one was a self portrait and I’ve fallen in love with this style since then and keep practicing this craft until I have it master. leave it with a quote from Pablo Picasso “every child is an artist the problem is how to remain an artist”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the struggles was developing the style I wanted to do and taking what my imagination creates and have my hands make it real pushing myself to make this my actual career was a new thing to process as well trying to raise 3 kids working full time and doing this had it’s obstacles as well but I love that I’m here to show them I’ve got this

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a tattoo artist I am working on mixing realism with graffiti style artwork so I can be known for specializing in that I want that to set me apart from other artist but I also love learning from other artists seeing how they create art is fascinating to me I am proud to be able to do art every day and see the world with a artistic vision

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see it always continuing to grow and artist making new styles of forever artwork
