Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Smith.
Hi lesley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
37 years ago, Lesley opened her studio at the age of 18 in a small pizza store. Elite continued to grow and now with 5 studios, offering all ages, levels and genres, ELITE DANCE STUDIO is one of Salt Lake Valley’s most well-respected institutions for the study of ballet, jazz, contemporary, acro, hip hop, tap, and aerial silks.
Established in 1989, Elite Dance Studio started small, with only a few students, Mirrors from the old ZCMI building lined the studio walls, but Elite has grown to a multi skill-level studio with recreational classes and competition companies.
Our professional instructors are committed to providing exceptional dance education in a positive environment. It is our philosophy that our students should not only enjoy their classes, but also support and guide one another to become better dancers as well as better individuals. It is our intent to provide a quality program that promotes the awareness and education of dance, tumbling, and theatrics in a fun and affordable fashion.
Your kids will definitely have a place at Elite Dance Studio. It is the most inclusive studio, and kids of every age and ability will thrive here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening a business at such a young age had its struggles. Lesley walked door to door with fliers and candy stapled to it. We didn’t have the social media and advertising opportunities we have today.
There are many studios in this areas so trying to stand out and and be different is something we are constantly striving for.
Covid was a BIG struggle!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our studio is know for being a “Second home” to many. We are talented, competitive, and FUN.. We have the kindest dancers and the most loving staff.
We are proud to scholarship many dancers that couldn’t dance without these scholarships.
Our dancers perform around the US, and take classes and conventions from world renowned choreographers.
Growing up in a toxic dance world, Lesley made sure that all dancers of all sizes, colors, and levels had a place to feel special.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Hard work, perseverance, and loving our dance families like family not customers.
