Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Alm.
Dennis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started working in the welding and industrial gas business in 2013 directly out of college. The welding supply distributors are the companies that sell welding and industrial equipment in addition to the cylinder gases used for a variety of purposes such as welding, cutting, and even all your medical gases. After being a branch manager and territory manager for eleven years I decided to switch gears and take a remote job in the industry. It’s when I switched positions that I decided to start my own small equipment rental business renting welding and cutting equipment. One thing was common working in the industry, almost nobody rented welding machines, plasma machines or cutting torches for short periods of time or without having a business credit account. Many people would ask to rent a welding machine for a weekend, or a torch to do a few cuts and the answer was usually they’d have to buy the equipment or lease it, if available. This could very easily amount to well over $1000 for someone who only needs to rent equipment for a day or two and should only need to spend one hundred to two hundred dollars.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes, quite smooth to be honest but one of the hardest challenges starting out was getting business insurance. It was rather difficult obtaining insurance for rental equipment. Of course, there is risk associated with renting equipment to people you don’t know as well as the risk of not using the equipment properly and most insurance companies would not insure me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lone Peak Equipment Rental ?
Lone Peak Equipment Rental started in the summer of 2025, and we rent welding machines, plasma machines, and oxy/fuel cutting torches. In addition, we also offer the filler metal (wire and welding rod), shielding gas, consumables, and even the PPE. We don’t sell anything outright but will provide everything you need to get your welding or cutting project done. This is extremely convenient and affordable for the home hobbyist, weekend warrior or small businesses that don’t have the capital to buy new equipment while one of their machines is in the shop getting repaired or just need an extra machine on a job. As for the consumables and filler metal goes, customers only pay for what they use. There is no need to buy a 10 pack of contact tips for a mig gun or a 10-pound roll of wire for a small welding project that requires one or two contact tips and a pound or two of wire. Additionally, we’re available seven days a week and a person can rent for one day or one month, no contract required! Our goal is to provide quality equipment at an affordable price to anybody. The equipment we offer is top of the line from the major manufacturers only found in select welding stores and not big box stores.
How do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily lucky, I just focus on being positive and always doing the right thing no matter the circumstance. My parents showed me what hard work gets you, my wife is amazing and by far my biggest supporter, and I’ve had wonderful mentors throughout my career that have helped me get to this point.
