Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Fox-Edwards.
Hi Jazmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey founding Utah Girls Love You (U.G.L.Y.) began in the late 1990’s, when I was a struggling single mother trying to find my footing while carrying more than I ever imagined I could. The early and mid-2000’s brought seasons of heartbreak, multiple divorces, and the quiet weight of feeling judged instead of supported. During that time, I started connecting with other single mothers who were walking similar paths, and together we created small circles of encouragement that reminded us we were not alone. Those early moments planted a seed in me, a sense that my experiences were shaping me for something bigger than survival.
It was not until my fourth marriage that I finally felt grounded enough to listen to that inner calling. With the support of my partner and a deep trust in the path God was guiding me toward, I stepped into the work that had been growing in my heart for years and founded the Utah Girls Love You Foundation. What began as a simple desire to help grow into a mission to bridge the gap for single parents and families who needed compassion, dignity, and real resources more than anything else.
Through U.G.L.Y.’s Closet, we now serve single parents, grandparents raising grandchildren on fixed incomes, refugee families, and individuals facing temporary hardship. We provide clothing, household essentials, hygiene products, and diapers at no cost, and we also offer educational workshops that help families rebuild confidence and move toward independence. Everything we have built has come from passion, community support, and an unwavering belief that when people are given care instead of judgment, they can truly thrive.
As we enter our tenth year of service, I feel incredibly grateful and humbled to have witnessed more than 15,000 families across the Wasatch Front find support through this work. The greatest reward is not just meeting immediate needs, but watching families grow stronger and remain connected to a community that believes in them. I have come to believe that when you help one mother rediscover her strength, you create a ripple effect that reaches generations to come, and that is the purpose that continues to guide me every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Utah Girls Love You is best known for creating a space where families can access both practical resources and genuine community support. Through U.G.L.Y.’s Closet, we provide affordable and free access to clothing, shoes, household items, hygiene products, and diapers, helping families stretch their budgets while still meeting everyday needs. We also offer workshops and opportunities that encourage growth, self-confidence, and connection, because support should go beyond a single moment of assistance.
One of the things that sets us apart is the way our model blends service with sustainability. While we prioritize helping single-parent households and families facing challenges, our doors are open to the public as well. Community members can shop at accessible prices, including our well-known $25 crate special, where a crate can be filled with clothing, along with two pairs of shoes. This approach allows the community to be part of the mission while helping us keep resources available for those who need them most.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that people know they can walk through our doors without fear of judgment. We have created an environment that feels welcoming, respectful, and real, where families are treated with dignity, no matter their circumstances. What I want people to know most is that U.G.L.Y.’s Closet is more than a place to receive items; it is a place where people feel seen, supported, and connected to something larger than themselves.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Utah GIrls Love You Fd/ U.G.L.Y.’s Closet ?
Thank you for the opportunity to share more about our organization.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next five to ten years, I see this space shifting toward deeper community-based solutions that go beyond basic assistance and focus more on long-term stability for families. There is a growing need for organizations to expand their reach while still maintaining a personal, grassroots connection, and that is the direction we hope to continue moving in. For us, that means strengthening our brand, opening additional locations so we can serve more communities, and working toward building housing assistance that provides families with a stronger foundation for the future. I believe the biggest change ahead will be a greater focus on collaboration, sustainability, and creating spaces where people are not just supported in the moment but given real opportunities to rebuild and thrive.
