Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Snell.
Hi Emma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began with my own wedding. I became a photographer after being let down by my wedding photographer, and my goal is to help as many couples as possible have the photography experience I always dreamed of. One filled with care, intention, professionalism, peace of mind, and gorgeous photos.
My sweet Grandma Kathleen also passed away a few weeks before my wedding, and I attribute a lot of my love for capturing beautiful things to her (I also share her middle name and named the business after her). She was always on the lookout for lovely, soulful things in life, and she documented them through every medium she could: art, photography, embroidery, sewing, etc.
When she passed away, I felt closest to her as I looked through photos and remembered the way she saw the world. I try to continue her legacy of documenting beautiful things with this business, and the most beautiful thing I’ve found is love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth. Building a business from scratch never really is!
In the beginning, I spent years doing free shoots, learning my camera inside and out, refining my editing style, and figuring out how to truly serve my clients well. When I went full time, my husband and I had to carefully balance the check book to make ends meet while I poured my heart into the business.
But every challenge has been worth it, because I get to be part of some of the most precious moments and memories a person can have! This work fills me up in a way nothing else does.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a wedding and couples photographer specializing in documentary and film-style photography. I photograph weddings, elopements, engagement and couples sessions, and formals/bridals. I specialize in photography that’s warm, intimate, nostalgic, honest, and artistic. I love taking your real, lived moments and creating art from them that you can look back on and feel the emotion of for the rest of your life.
I’m known for capturing love in a way that you can feel when you look at the photos, and for timeless but still nostalgic edits.
A big thing that sets me apart is that I don’t want to capture perfection or poses, I want to capture YOU. I want you and your person in all of your beauty, with all of your quirks, laughs, and expressions. The way I photograph is capturing the most honest versions of you, so truly, all you have to do is show up and love each other, and your photos will turn out looking like magic
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Love, whether it’s romantic, platonic, familial, or anything else, is really the reason that we’re here. The most important thing we can do in life is love people fully and honestly.
