Today we’d like to introduce you to April Benincosa.
Hi April, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been in a service based industry. I used to wait tables and bartend and then I got into hair and then it became the manager of the salon and then I bought one Salon and then at one point, I owned five salons and then I realized that I actually just loved talking to people and helping people more than I actually loved doing hair and that’s what brought me to being an intimacy coach doing hair for over 20 years. I had so many women sitting in my chair that felt unseen that felt that they didn’t know how to ask for their needs that felt that they didn’t have a voice, and I really wanted to help them love themselves on a deep level love that voice inside their head that tells them that they’re not enough and help them rewire some of these patterns, but also kill their nervous system and connect to their sensuality. I have a degree in Psychology, trained in NLP, psycho somatics, Icm master certified coach and speaker. I am currently now getting trained in tantra with my focus on embodiment and nervous system regulation. I met the love of my life after leaving a 15 year marriage in a tantra program and together, we’ve decided to start a podcast called safe to Love, which is all about having courage, accountability, compassion, authenticity, impracticality. We interview real life couples who have been together for a long time and love each other. We interview experts about the body about intimacy about relationships, and we also share our own personal stories as my partner is also amends, intimacy coach we are deep in the work of shutting our skins. The podcast is our crucible and it is the most beautiful initiation I’ve ever been through. ! I love helping womenn find their authetic voice and get out of their own way and live the life they always knew in their hearts were meant to be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh my goodness it has been the bumpiest road. My joke to myself is I have to learn things the hard way three times lol! We always are called to teach what is our greatest lesson my greatest lesson has been overcoming this deep seeded belief that I’m not enough that I’m not worthy that I’m too much that my voice doesn’t matter, but at the same time that my voice is too big and too loud and this paradox that I have been living in has been very interesting to get to the root causes of. I grew up with a lot of childhood trauma and a lot of deep patterns that I have spent 15 years rewiring and re patterning creating safety. I had to get out of a marriage that didn’t serve me even though he was my best friend, but I just knew that it wasn’t right and that was excruciating. ! I got to choose me, which meant I had to overcome my deep embedded pattern of people pleasing! . I got back in touch with. my sensual nature and really learned what an embodied no looks and feels like in my body. I am currently working on getting out of my businesses my identity as a hairstylist, my identity as a wife, my identity as a stepmom, my identity as a business owner and peeling back the layers to who is April and just letting myself be me?I believe creaitvity is the greatest gift we can give the world. Many people know how to do the workbut seldom know how to do the play. Thats where i come in. I bring an element of joy and magic back into peoples life by cultivating unique expierences to help them tap back into thier own magic and joy!!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creativity and play are my magic medicine. I love to travel and have always been into timetravel, history,Hair and Makeup and a few years ago I got into doing these luxury time travel retreats that are once in a lifetime experiences. I have taken people to Versailles and made custom wigs and costumes and cultivated a whole experience about how to tap into your creativity. I’ve taken women to Egypt and help them connect to Isis Energy. I’ve taken people to Scotland and done a time travel retreat with outlander costumes or we time traveled and believed in magic and asked our self what does freedom mean to us I’ve taken all of these years of experience of traveling of doing her and Makeup for movies my love of history and my passion for personal development and put them together. I now curate play retreats that are these one day retreats where I help women go deep into their creativity their joy and their play allowing themselves to ask for their needs allow allowing themselves to be seen and held and dress up in fun costumes or make wild tiger noises play is definitely an element that I bring out and also permission permission to be authentic however that looks for you creating a sense of community and belonging. I now do these retreats monthly and there’s so much healing that happens on these retreats it’s been the greatest gift of my life. I also love to help the feminine take of her masks of perfection and learn how to feel all her feelings through breathwork, dance and expression. I am a permission giver, sometimes all you need is persmission with safety and the audacity to be authetic.
What are your plans for the future?
