Daily Inspiration: Meet Mary Sinner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Sinner.

Hi Mary, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started painting in Highschool and realized that I loved doing it. I was lucky enough to get a couple of awesome scholarships to pay for my Undergrad and Graduate School. I have a BFA and MFA from the University of Utah. I’ve continued to paint at a home studio. I have four kids and work part time. My artwork has been featured in several galleries throughout the country. Right now my focus is primarily on ski/winter themed artwork that I sell in Park City, Salt Lake City, and Crested Butte Colorado.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth ride. I had my first son my second week of grad school at the University of Utah. I didn’t sleep much for those two years but I learned how to work efficiently and prioritize tasks. Figuring out how to paint during busy times allowed me to continue working while having kids.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve experimented with tons of different mediums over the years but my main focus now is figurative oil painting. I prefer to work from found images- often vintage. I used to wish that I could paint more like other artists that I admire but I’ve come to realize that I have a distinctive style and that sets me a part from other artists. People in Utah probably know my work as ski related paintings but I love painting many different subjects. I’m really proud of the companies and galleries that I’ve been able to work with over the years.
