Hidden Gems: Meet Babu Purevsuren of Summit Restoration

Today we’d like to introduce you to Babu Purevsuren.

Hi Babu, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I came to the United States from Mongolia in 2004. When I arrived, I didn’t speak any English. Everything was new to me. The language, the culture, even the food. It was very hard in the beginning.

I went to English school and studied as much as I could. During those years, I worked in restaurants, construction, and even as a custodian on campus while I was in school. I knew if I worked hard and stayed focused, I could build a better future.

After many challenges and rejections, I was finally accepted and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Construction Management. After graduation, I worked as a handyman and subcontractor for larger restoration companies. Over time, I gained experience and confidence.

In 2019, I opened Summit Restoration. Since then, I’ve been working hard to grow the business and serve our community the best way I can.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has never been a smooth road.

When I first came to the U.S., I could not communicate in English. I felt alone many times. I didn’t understand the culture, I missed my family, and I was homesick. I was rejected by colleges, including BYU, multiple times before being accepted. Even after I got in, I struggled in classes at LDS Business College and BYU because of the language barrier.

After graduation, I was the only one in my class without a job offer. That was discouraging.

There were also personal struggles. I was in serious car accidents. I had severe back pain. My father was diagnosed with cancer, and I later lost him. That was one of the hardest times in my life.

In business, I opened three companies with partners and was betrayed. I lost money and had to close them. I went broke. I dealt with difficult customers and lawsuits. A former employee stole my truck and tools. At one point, all my employees left, and I was alone. I trusted marketing companies and people who overpromised and didn’t deliver. Some customers didn’t pay. I lent money to friends and lost it.

Sometimes I still feel like I haven’t achieved what I dreamed of yet.

When I feel stuck and don’t know what to do, I think about my grandparents, my father, and my family, my wife and my two sons. They give me strength. I try to follow Christ the best I can: to do what is right, not hurt others, love even those who hurt me, stay positive, and pray to God, even when nothing seems to work in my life. That keeps me going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Summit Restoration is made up of normal people who work hard to provide for their families and serve God’s people.

We help families during some of the worst times in their lives; water damage, fire damage, mold, and other disasters. I have seen many families cry and struggle because their homes were damaged and belongings lost or destroyed. In those moments, they feel overwhelmed and unsure what will happen next.

That is when we come in. We try to calm the situation and let them know it will be okay. We explain what needs to happen and walk them through each step. If insurance is involved, we talk with the insurance company and handle the paperwork so they do not have to deal with all of it alone. There is already so much stress, so we try to carry some of that for them.

We not only serve homeowners, but also commercial property owners and property managers. Whether it is an emergency like water, fire, or mold damage, or someone simply wants to update their home or business, we are there to help. We handle the cleanup, the repairs, and the rebuilding. We also do remodeling projects like finishing basements or updating older spaces, even if there was no damage. We try to make the whole process easier and less stressful for them.

We want to help restore their home and give them comfort and hope that everything will be okay, maybe even better than before.

We just genuinely want to help. We try to serve with honesty and care. For us, it is not just about fixing a house. It is about helping people feel safe again.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Doing the right thing.

Even if we lose money on a job, we try to do what is right and give our best work. I tell my team to be honest and authentic, even when we make mistakes. If we make a mistake, we can fix it. But if we are not honest, that is harder to repair.

We see our work as service to God and His people. As long as we stay honest, work hard, and treat people with respect, I believe we are on the right path.
