Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandy Ji.
Hi Mandy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became CEO of Doba about seven years ago, stepping into a company that was already a pioneer in dropshipping since its founding in 2002. Coming from a background in e-commerce operations and global sourcing, I saw the huge potential, but also the misconceptions, that were holding so many people back.
Dropshipping had earned a bad reputation as a ‘get rich quick’ scheme, with flashy ads promising easy millions in 30 days or less. I wanted to change that completely. My vision was is to reposition it as what it truly can be: a legitimate path to building real income through dedication, learning, and smart execution. No overnight miracles, but genuine freedom from the 9-5 grind.
I committed to empowering sellers with the knowledge they need: product research strategies, market insights, operational best practices, and reliable tools that make scaling possible without holding inventory. We’ve invested heavily in education, better integrations, faster shipping options, and innovative features to support that journey.
These past seven years have been about proving that vision.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been smooth at all. When I took over as CEO seven years ago, things were rough, the business was losing money every single month, and then a bunch of key team members left during the new transition to new ownership of the company. It hit hard and left us scrambling.
I had to jump in fast and make some tough calls. Externally, we had to rethink how we showed up in the market, fix supplier issues, and improve the platform. But honestly, the biggest work was internal: rebuilding trust, sorting out our processes, and slowly building a team that actually believed in the same thing I did, making dropshipping real and sustainable, not some get-rich-quick fantasy.
It wasn’t pretty. There were long nights, hard talks, and plenty of moments where I wondered if we’d pull through. But we kept going step by step, got everyone rowing in the same direction, and focused on delivering real value to our sellers through better tools, education, and support.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Doba?
Doba is a comprehensive dropshipping platform that’s been around since 2002, helping online retailers connect with a curated network of vetted suppliers, about 90 percent based right here in the US. That focus on domestic sourcing means faster shipping, often just a few days, better quality control, and much happier customers who aren’t waiting forever for their orders.
We make dropshipping straightforward and reliable. You get access to millions of products without ever having to buy or store inventory yourself. One click imports to your store on Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Wix, and more. Real time inventory syncing, automated order fulfillment, and suppliers ship directly to your buyers. No warehouses, no headaches, just focus on selling and growing.
What we’re really known for is keeping it real. In a space full of hype and overnight success stories, we don’t do that. We’re all about building sustainable businesses that take consistent effort, smart choices, and the right tools to create real income and freedom from the traditional nine to five grind.
What sets us apart:
A strong emphasis on US based suppliers for quick, dependable delivery. It’s a huge edge when buyers expect speed these days.
Solid automation that actually saves you time: real time updates, profit tools, bulk features, and seamless integrations across platforms.
Real education and support through Doba Elite Academy. Practical courses, guides, tips, and resources to help you learn the ropes and level up step by step.
I’m especially proud of how far we’ve come with the platform in recent years, particularly the AI advancements and Doba Pilot. Our AI Tool Hub makes everything smarter and faster, and it’s designed to dramatically lower the barrier for anyone just getting started in dropshipping. Tools like AI Product Finder spot high potential, trending items using over twenty years of real market data, so you don’t have to spend weeks guessing what might sell. AI Store Builder lets you set up a full store in minutes with just a few inputs. AI Auto lister handles optimized listings on autopilot, and AI Listing Optimizer sharpens your product copy for better conversions. Doba Pilot acts as your AI assistant, guiding workflows, automating the routine stuff, and giving data backed recommendations every step of the way.
For someone brand new to dropshipping, this opens up the entry point in a big way. You don’t need years of experience or endless trial and error to get moving. The AI handles a lot of the heavy lifting, research, and setup that used to overwhelm beginners, so you can launch faster, test smarter, and focus on learning and growing instead of getting stuck on the basics.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
For me, the real resource is reflection and iteration. I try to run my life like a company. I track what matters, protect deep-work time, and do quarterly “reviews” on myself — what worked, what didn’t, and what to double down on. Life is a product: ship, measure, improve.
