Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Neyts.
Hi Summer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a creative person, but for a long time my art stayed pretty private. I worked in the corporate world, but creating has always been something that grounded me.
One day I was at a yard sale and picked up a vinyl record because I thought it would be fun to paint on. Another woman there stopped me and said, ‘Don’t buy that here — text me later, my husband has boxes of records you can have.’ That moment ended up changing everything.
I started painting on those records, experimenting with dot mandalas and color, and something just clicked. Music and art both have this incredible ability to bring people together and shift energy, and painting on records felt like combining two worlds that already meant a lot to me.
Now I create hand-painted vinyl record pieces through my art brand, Wild.Dot. Each piece is built slowly, dot by dot, layer by layer, and many of them even glow in the dark. My goal is really simple — to spread color, music, and a little bit of wonder into people’s spaces.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been the easy path. Like a lot of artists, the biggest challenge has really been putting myself out there. I created privately for a long time, so sharing my work publicly and believing it deserved space in the world was a big step for me.
There’s also a lot that goes into turning art into something sustainable — learning about selling, pricing, marketing, and just figuring things out as you go. It’s definitely been a learning curve.
But at the same time, every challenge has made me more committed to the work. When people connect with a piece, or tell me it made them feel something, it reminds me why I started. That makes all the hard parts worth it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Professionally, I spent many years working in the corporate world, which taught me a lot about discipline, problem solving, and long-term commitment. Even while building that career, creativity was always something that stayed with me in the background.
Art was something I practiced quietly for a long time. Over the years I developed my dot painting technique and experimented with different materials, eventually discovering how much I loved painting on vinyl records.
Recently I decided it was time to bring that creative side forward and share it with others. Through my art brand, Wild.Dot, I now create hand-painted vinyl record pieces that blend music and mandala-style dot work. Each piece is built slowly and intentionally, and many include glow elements that interact with light.
Right now I’m focused on growing that creative path, sharing my work with the community, and continuing to evolve both the art and the experience around it.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Start before you feel ready.
A lot of people wait until their work is perfect or until they think they have everything figured out. But creativity does not really work like that.
The most important thing is simply to start making things and keep going.
Share your work. Learn as you go. Try ideas that might not work the first time.
Building something meaningful takes time, and sometimes the moment that changes everything comes from a completely unexpected place. For me, it started with picking up a vinyl record at a yard sale.
