Exploring Life & Business with Carissa Devenport of Pinyon + Star Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Devenport.

Hi Carissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m the founder of Pinyon + Star Wellness, a Reiki and energy healing practice based in Salt Lake City.

My path here hasn’t been linear. I’ve spent the past decade co-owning a pizzeria in Park City with my husband, where we’ve created a space that people feel nourished and cared for. Alongside the hospitality industry, I’ve always felt a deeper pull towards healing work.

I became a Reiki Master in 2014 and practiced personally for years before feeling called to share that work more openly. Bringing it into a public space felt like honoring something I’ve always known to be deeply grounding and supportive. As more people experience burnout and overwhelm, I knew I wanted to make this work more accessible.

Pinyon + Star Wellness grew from that knowing. It’s a practice rooted in nature, nervous system support and the belief that healing doesn’t have to be complicated to be powerful. Today, I work with clients both in person and at a distance, creating space for people to slow down, reset and reconnect with themselves in a way that feels grounded and accessible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a relatively smooth road in many ways. I’ve been intentional about letting this practice grow organically, with the belief that the people who are aligned will find me. I also work out of Church & State, which has a really supportive and welcoming community.

That said, one of the ongoing challenges has been helping people understand what Reiki is and how it can support them. It’s still unfamiliar to many, so there is a natural process of education and trust-building.

Growth has been steady rather than fast, and I’ve had to trust that pace. It’s meant focusing on building genuine connections, creating a safe and grounded experience, and allowing word of mouth to grow over time.

As you know, we’re big fans of Pinyon + Star Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pinyon + Star Wellness is a Reiki and energy healing practice focused on helping people slow down, reset and reconnect with themselves. My work is rooted in nervous system support; creating a space where the body can shift out of stress and into a more regulated, restful state.

I offer both in person and distance Reiki sessions, as well as group experiences and custom sessions for things like retreats or special gatherings. While every session is different, the intention is always the same; to provide a grounded, supportive experience that meets people exactly where they are.

What sets my practice apart is that it’s both intuitive and accessible. Reiki can sometimes feel mysterious or hard to understand, so I focus on making it approachable without losing the depth of the work. I am trauma informed, which means I’m mindful of how people experience their bodies and energy, and I prioritize creating a space that feels safe and respectful.

There is also a strong connection to nature woven into everything I do. The name Pinyon + Star comes from desert landscapes and wide night skies, that sense of grounding and spaciousness is something I try to bring to every session.

Brand wise, I am most proud of creating something that feels both calming and real, something that doesn’t require people to be anything other than who they are when they walk in. At its core, this work is about helping people feel more like themselves again.

Any big plans?
Right now, my focus is on continuing to grow Pinyon + Star in a way that feels aligned and sustainable. I plan to remain at Church & State, which has been such a supportive home for this work, while continuing to build my client community.

In the future, I’m excited to begin offering Reiki Training, creating a space for others to learn, practice and step into this work themselves. For me, Reiki Training is about empowering people to support their own healing; giving them tools to regulate their nervous system and reconnect with themselves in everyday life, without always needing to book a session.
It feels like a natural next step, and one I’ve been slowly growing toward.
