Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricki Chambers.
Hi Ricki, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We were looking for a business that could create residual income for us and Daylight became available when the last owner was ready to sell the business. It seemed like the perfect fit! What we didn’t know, in our naive knowledge of opening a donut shop, is how labor intensive donuts are! Three years later, we have learned a lot, but our favorite part are the smiles we see everyday! Donut customers are so happy!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So many! First of all, trying to figure out exactly how much dough to make everyday is a struggle! I wish I had a crystal ball that could tell me exactly how much dough to make! Another struggle is getting employees that want to do the work-it’s definitely not a sit down and hang out kind of job. Also, keeping supply costs and labor costs in line is a big struggle,
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We own another business that I do the accounting for and accounting really isn’t my jam! So when I am extra busy with accounting, you will find me at the donut shop in the early mornings, because I love the creative part of it and the decorating part! Starting with dough and ending up
with a beautiful, hot donut that I get to share with someone is my favorite part! Daylight Donuts are so good because we are required to buy or flour from the Daylight Flour Company that has been in business for 72 years. We will be celebrating our 3rd Birthday of owning Daylight here in St George on April 21st. Also, National Donut Day is June 5th this year. We love when our customers come celebrate with us!
What does success mean to you?
I think success is defined as getting to do exactly what you love! I love to work hard, but I also love to travel. I feel like I have been able to do both, because I can do a lot of my work in both business from my phone and computer.
