Daily Inspiration: Meet Chuwadee Chaichao

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuwadee Chaichao.

Chuwadee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We were among the first restaurants to open in Downtown Salt Lake City, offering Thai food that is tailored to suit local tastes. You could say we are 85% Thai, with about 15% of the flavors and spices adjusted to better suit local palates, making it easier to enjoy and understand Thai cuisine. As a result, we have earned strong support from the local community, which is evident from the more than 1,000 reviews on Google. In April, we celebrated our 10th anniversary. We still have a lot of promotions to mark the occasion, such as free mango sticky rice on birthdays and free Thai tea. Terms apply as defined by the restaurant, and there is an online order discount of up to 50%. You can call the restaurant for inquiries.

For customers dining in, we have extended our hours to 11:00 PM. If you arrive early after opening in the evening, there is free parking at the back of the restaurant; street-side parking is free after 8:00 PM.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We faced severe difficulties during the COVID period because the government restricted customers from dining in at the restaurant, which led to heavy ongoing losses for several months. However, the restaurant weathered the challenge by focusing on online ordering, offering much larger portion sizes than typical restaurants.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What makes us feel most proud of our work is the blending of Western and Eastern cultures, which we express through our food. There is a cultural fusion in both ingredients and flavors across many dishes, resulting in a wide range of menus that are different from other Thai restaurants. Our customers love it and have given us strong, ongoing support.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Hehe, this might be a joke, but customers often ask us what interesting things we have in the restaurant. We tell them that we have Transformers in the restaurant, and in the store we have a Bumblebee over 900 lb. No one believes it, but when they arrive, okay—no one can deny that it’s true!
