Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Wake.
Hi Cassidy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started teaching violin in 2010, while I was still in middle school. I earned a degree in Music Performance from BYU with a string emphasis. I’ve been lucky to play all kinds of music in all kinds of places, from bluegrass at a barn dance to a traditional Chinese melody on the Great Wall. My main work recently has been as a member of various orchestras, recording for individual artists, and teaching private students.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opportunities vary and work is unsteady in the music world, so learning to adapt to each changing circumstance has been my biggest challenge.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a violinist and violist. I play in orchestral settings, in recording studios, and I teach private lessons. People like to work with me because I’m versatile; I play either instrument in varying styles and situations. My favorite work is in the recording studio with artists and songwriters or in the pit for an opera or ballet.
What are your plans for the future?
Not especially. I’m taking opportunities as they come and enjoying the journey.
