Exploring Life & Business with David Aldrich of Kodiak Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Aldrich.

Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The dream of Kodiak Counseling started after I got my first job in Vernal back in 2019 with Uintah School District. I saw the need for Social Workers and the impact they had in different areas inside and outside of schools. One of my first mentors offered me a position as a School Social Worker and that led to more opportunities while completing my schooling. From then on I went to continue my education and the path with another local mental health clinic. This allowed me to watch and learn from many different therapists who showed me varied approaches. When I chose to open my own counseling center it was a big decision but it was easy to know this was the right path for my family and I. After leaving each mentor in the past the lessons they shared helped to continue molding the future and connecting me with opportunities not yet seen. Eventually, one last mentor was able to offer me the location I’m in with some of the people who helped build Kodiak to what it is. This adventure will keep moving forward and we will continue to provide the best care we can to the community we serve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has been full of potholes and dangers along the way. We struggled with the right funding sources in the beginning but found a path that worked for us to grow and become what we are today. As opportunities and challenges have come up family has been there to support and help move Kodiak as well as myself forward. I could not have done what has been accomplished without my wife, my kids, my father, and the team around me who each continue to help Kodiak thrive and grow in different ways.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kodiak Counseling?
Kodiak Counseling Center is a community-based mental health practice serving the Uintah Basin with offices in Vernal and Roosevelt, Utah. We provide therapy and mental health support for children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Our services include individual therapy, family counseling, group therapy, trauma-focused treatment, substance use support, crisis support, psychiatric evaluations, and medication management.

What we are known for is being approachable, grounded, and deeply connected to the community we serve. Kodiak was built around the idea that people are naturally strong and naturally resilient, but sometimes they need the right support, tools, and relationships to help them move forward. We work with people facing trauma, anxiety, depression, family conflict, substance use concerns, life transitions, and complex stressors. We also serve children and adolescents, which is a major need in our area.

What sets Kodiak apart is our commitment to meeting people where they are. We are not trying to be a distant or overly clinical organization. We want clients to feel seen, respected, and supported from the moment they walk in. We also work hard to reduce barriers to care by accepting different insurance plans, offering a variety of services, and continuing to expand programs that meet real community needs.

Brand-wise, we are most proud that Kodiak feels strong, local, and trustworthy. The bear imagery represents resilience, protection, strength, and survival — all things we see in our clients every day. Our brand is not just a logo; it reflects the way we practice. We believe healing is possible, people can grow through difficult seasons, and families and communities become stronger when mental health care is accessible and compassionate.

We want readers to know that Kodiak Counseling is more than a counseling office. We are a growing mental health organization committed to serving the Uintah Basin with high-quality care, strong ethical standards, and a genuine investment in the people who live here. Our goal is to continue expanding services, supporting families, training clinicians, and helping individuals build healthier, more stable lives.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has been most important to our success is community connection. Kodiak Counseling was built to serve the people and families of the Uintah Basin, so our work has always been grounded in understanding the real needs of this area. We are not just providing therapy services; we are building relationships with clients, families, schools, community partners, and local organizations. That connection helps us respond to what people actually need, reduce barriers to care, and create a place where clients feel known and supported. Our success comes from being part listening, and continuing to grow with The Uintah Basin Community.
