Rising Stars: Meet KC Peek of Utah

Today we’d like to introduce you to KC Peek.

Hi KC, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2007, my great-grandmother Hazel passed away. I was thirty-one at the time and felt fortunate that I had had so many years with her. From her estate, I was gifted a wide assortment of vintage jewelry, books, photos, and other ephemera. The pieces ranged from whimsical and breathtaking costume jewelry to sheet music from her childhood. After sorting through them, I started expanding my painting into mixed media and dioramas.

In 2020, I turned a passion project, a book of prompts, into a deck of storytelling prompts with an almost infinite number of possibilities designed to inspire creativity. Artists, writers, and creatives use them to spark new ideas, overcome creative blocks, and tell their own unique story.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an artist is never easy. I was often plagued with self-doubt, jealousy, and other insecurities.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make unique dioramas made from thrift store finds, my great-grandma’s costume jewelry, and other memorabilia. In addition to dioramas, I paint delicate watercolors, often focusing on botanicals, and explores mixed media techniques to create striking 2D and relief artwork. My work invites viewers to engage with a blend of history, memory, and nature, encouraging a deep connection to the past and present.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband was my biggest cheerleader. He passed away in January 2026. He was always there. Always supportive.

I sell my artwork at the Local Artisan Collective and have an amazing community of artists who support me.

I also have the best family and incredible friends who are always willing to help.
