Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Pierce.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
About 11 years ago the dance studio where my daughters used to dance was closing as the owner was moving back to her hometown. At this time it was the only dance studio in our town. My oldest daughter was moving back to Moab, we got together with some incredible dance teachers and talked about opening a dance studio. We realized there was a need for this as the performing art programs in schools were being cut as well as some of the physical fitness classes. I was able to open this studio with the help of amazing ladies and my family. My oldest daughter has since moved out of Moab but my second daughter, Maecie, now runs the studio with me. Our focus is to offer a space where kids can learn something new and be proud of their accomplishments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges when running a business. 2020 seemed to have the most hurdles. We could not hold in person classes and we weren’t really sure how that would affect our studio. Maecie was very motivated and began to teach a Zoom class. It’s not as good as in person but it worked for the time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Moab Dance Company offers dance classes. We begin our classes at 18 months and go up to 15 years old. We offer toddler classes, cheer, hip hop, ballet and jazz. We also have a competition dance team that attends 3-4 competitions each season. I think our community really looks forward to our yearly dance production where we portray a story through dance. We have performed Jungle Book, The Lion King, The Night Before Christmas among others. Our most recent production was Beauty and the Beast.
