Founded 12 years ago by members of the Italian American Civic League of Utah, Festa Italiana was created with a simple vision: to share the rich traditions, culture, and spirit of Italy with the entire Salt Lake community.
Inspired by visits to some of the country’s most celebrated Italian festivals, members of the League believed Utah deserved a world-class celebration of its own—one that honored the generations of Italian-Americans who helped build our community while inviting everyone to experience the warmth, hospitality, and traditions of Italian culture.
Today, Festa Italiana has grown into one of Utah’s premier cultural celebrations. This two-day festival features live Italian entertainment, regional Italian cuisine, imported Italian wines and Italian beer, artisan vendors, historical exhibits, children’s activities, exotic Italian automobiles, street performers, and countless opportunities to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of Italy.
More than just a festival, Festa Italiana is a celebration of heritage, family, and community. Every ticket purchased, every meal shared, and every memory created helps support the mission of the Italian American Civic League of Utah. Festival proceeds benefit the League’s charitable, educational, and cultural initiatives, as well as local and national nonprofit organizations that strengthen our communities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many great traditions, Festa Italiana didn’t begin with certainty—it began with passion, determination, and a group of volunteers who believed our community deserved something special.
Launching the festival was no small undertaking. Our original location required a major downtown street closure, and earning the trust and support of city leaders, local businesses, and the community took years of hard work. Every permit, every partnership, and every attendee represented another step toward building something that would last.
As the festival grew, we found an incredible home at The Gateway, where Festa Italiana has continued to flourish. Each year has brought new experiences, larger crowds, expanded programming, and more opportunities to celebrate Italian culture with the people of Utah.
Growth, however, brings new challenges. While attendance and community enthusiasm have continued to increase year after year, securing and maintaining the larger sponsorships needed to support that growth has remained one of our greatest obstacles. Producing a festival of this scale requires significant resources, and balancing that vision with financial sustainability is an ongoing effort.
Yet every challenge has reaffirmed what makes Festa Italiana truly special.
Our committee members volunteer countless hours throughout the year planning every detail. Hundreds of volunteers generously give their time during the festival weekend because they believe in preserving and sharing our heritage. Their dedication, along with the unwavering support of our community, has allowed Festa Italiana to continue growing year after year.
Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. The story of Festa Italiana is one of perseverance, collaboration, and an enduring belief that culture has the power to bring people together. Every challenge we’ve overcome has strengthened the foundation for the future, and every person who has contributed—whether as a volunteer, sponsor, vendor, performer, or guest—has become part of that story.
Together, we’ve built far more than a festival. We’ve built a tradition and we have been able to maintain a free entry festival for all that attend.

At its heart, Festa Italiana exists to celebrate and preserve Italian culture while creating opportunities for people and businesses to thrive.
For more than a decade, the festival has become a launching pad for local artisans, family-owned businesses, food vendors, and restaurants. Many have introduced their products to thousands of guests at Festa Italiana before going on to open brick-and-mortar locations, expand their businesses, or become recognized names throughout Utah. Supporting entrepreneurs and showcasing authentic Italian craftsmanship remains one of the festival’s greatest points of pride.
Food has always been one of the most powerful ways to share culture, and every year our culinary offerings bring the diverse regions of Italy to life. From cherished family recipes and traditional desserts to handcrafted pastas, artisan cheeses, wood-fired pizzas, and regional specialties, our food vendors offer guests an authentic taste of Italy while celebrating the generations of families who have preserved these traditions.
Our commitment to culture extends well beyond the food. Festa Italiana brings together talented musicians, performers, and entertainers from both our local community and around the world. From internationally recognized Italian recording artists and cultural performers to traditional folk musicians, dance groups, opera, and lively street performers, every stage and every corner of the festival is designed to immerse visitors in the spirit of Italy.
We are equally proud to showcase Italian art, history, language, heritage, automobiles, and traditions through interactive exhibits, artisan markets, educational displays, and family activities that inspire the next generation to appreciate the richness of Italian culture.
Everything we do is guided by a single mission: to preserve, promote, and celebrate Italian culture while creating meaningful experiences that bring people together. We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Every great tradition has a defining moment—the one where hope turns into belief.
For us, that moment came during the very first Festa Italiana.
As the sun dipped behind the historic Rio Grande building, casting a warm golden light across the festival, the crowd gathered in front of the main stage. Then, Ricci Martin, son of the legendary Dean Martin, stepped into the spotlight.
In that moment, something changed.
Families were dancing. Friends were laughing. Strangers became neighbors. The music echoed through downtown Salt Lake City, and for the first time, we could see the vision we had spent years working toward come to life.
Standing there, watching thousands of people celebrate Italian culture together beneath the evening sky, we realized we had created something far bigger than a festival.
We had created a tradition.
It wasn’t just about the entertainment or the food. It was about pride in our heritage, sharing our culture with the community, and creating a place where generations could gather to celebrate together.
More than a decade later, that feeling still drives everything we do. Every festival weekend, we chase that same sense of connection, joy, and belonging that we experienced on that unforgettable first night.
It remains one of our favorite memories—and a reminder of why Festa Italiana exists.
