Today we’d like to introduce you to EJ Sarà.
Hi EJ, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I write soulful, powerful, sassy and cinematic music with one theme that continues to arise: EMPOWERMENT. I previously worked as a music therapist playing and singing jazz standards, as well as creating original music for hospice patients, and I currently teach motivating group exercise classes that inspire my songwriting. My catalog has grown to over 500 songs, which have been featured on popular shows such as “High Potential”, “Love Is Blind”, “Found”, “Elsbeth”, “Selling Sunset”, “The Cleaning Lady” and many more. As I motivate members in my group fitness classes, I bring that inspiration into creating powerful songs for sports broadcasting, that have been heard on the Olympics, NBA Finals, NFL Network, ESPN, CBS Sports, MLB network, and March Madness. My songs have been featured on ads for Kohl’s, Nissan, Volvo, Baskin Robbins, as well as video game promos such as PGA2K25, Valorant, and Delta Force. I have a passion for music and exercise, and am so grateful to be doing what I love everyday.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I remember feeling very frustrated because I was writing so many songs that were getting signed to great agencies, but not seeing them get placements. I had to give it time, continue to write as much as possible, and then the placements started coming. Sync licensing is a grind that is years in the making, but totally worth it now that I get to do what I love from home.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/songwriter AND a group exercise instructor. The fact that I do both professionally makes me stand out. I teach my group exercise classes at the gym, and I motivate the participants there. Then I go home and pour all that energy into the lyrics I create. Sometimes that ends up being more fun and confident lyrics (since you’ve always got to have some fun when you’re working out!) and sometimes that motivation manifests as intense and powerful.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I have collaborated with some great producers from Nashville. The city seems to have a great vibe, with such great talent coming from there.
