Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Marco.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always wanted to be a professional singer and began singing on stage at two years old and as a pro when I was 13. I continued to perform throughout my teenage years and began recording music in college, which then led to being on nearly 900 projects as a studio session singer.
I’ve been consistent with performing and recording, but also began producing studio vocals and I opened a vocal coaching studio, too. I now contract and produce vocals for many different group sessions, which is so fun.
My lifelong dream has led to being on stages, in studios or stadiums nearly every week of the last three decades.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I moved to Utah at 21 years old after making a faith transition and being kicked out of the college I had attended.
I loved gospel and worship music, which I tried to bring into the Utah musical culture, but my taste in music was considered irreverent and taboo for a long time.
In order to receive session work, I had to learn to adapt my vocal style to one of a more breathy tone, but eventually power vocals became the in demand trend with various studios and bands I was working with, so I was able to use my voice to its full capacity.
Eventually, I started being asked to contract gospel choir sessions, so things have definitely changed in the industry.
I’ve also been a single mother for 15 years, which has created its own challenges, but fortunately my kids are amazing and have all become professional singers, too, so we grew in the business together!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in coaching, recording, performing and producing empowering, inspiring music. Something that I believe that sets me apart from others is being one of the only female vocal producers in the state who is also consistently recording music. My soulful voice is also unique.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe I’ve had amazing luck, timing, networking or whatever else someone would want to attribute success to.
The ways in which I’ve met people whose experiences created a decades long working relationship has been incredible, and I do not believe in coincidence!
