Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Anderson.
Hi Shane, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My wife and I are an indie/folk band who travel all over North America half the year in our converted school bus. We perform house concerts, festivals, churches, theaters and other music venues. The other half of the year, we perform at Silver Dollar City in Branson Missouri.
We started playing 4 hour cover gigs in Florida. After a couple of years we started performing colleges under a booking agency called Degy and then that’s what inspired us to travel more full time. That’s when we bought a 29 ft RV and then 5 years after that, we purchased a school bus (April 2020) and converted it into an RV and that’s what we currently travel in now.
When Silver Dollar City offered us a residency at their theme park, we purchased property in Omaha Arkansas, where we hired a company to build our A Frame cabin in the woods.
Half the year we live in that A Frame Cabin and the other half of the year we live in our bus.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We absolutely love our life. I think when you’re so in love with what you do, the obstacles don’t seem as bad. Through breakdowns, long drives, sometimes running out of money… these can be overwhelming moments if you’re in a job you don’t like. So though the road is not always smooth and though it has it’s struggles… it’s all worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We perform indie folk music mostly in peoples living rooms where the experience is intimate. We never have a set list and like to keep each show unique to the audience.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The journey is better than the end goal.
