Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianna Richins.
Hi Dianna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a kid my mom had a camera that she brought along to all of my horse shows, piano recitals, rodeo queen contests and rodeos. So in high school when they offered a digital photo class I took it and that’s what got me started down the photo road.
My leather business happened during Covid. I decided I wanted to try a new hobby and I watched so much YouTube from different leather makers on how to do it. Once I started everybody kept pushing me to make it more and so I did. And then in the spring of 2023 me and my husband got married and combined our leather businesses to create Richins Leather. And by that fall he stayed home to run most of it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think every business and person has a bumpy road for life and work. I mean I wish it was always super smooth and no issues. Sometimes you may not click with a client for pictures or Mother Nature decides to change the weather unexpectedly on us. Or now with technology, sometimes it just flat doesn’t work lol.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My photography side I specialize in Families, Seniors, Rodeo Queens, Livestock and weddings. I’m really known for my seniors who bring their fair animal pictures to the senior sessions this point in my career. I was able to make friends with a family about 10 years ago. And they really shaped me in Livestock Photography. They show livestock competitively and helped me learn what those families look for in their pictures at fairs and jackpots that show the best of the animals and kids. It’s probably been my most rewarding side so far.
The leather side me and my husband are known for our belts, back cinch cellphone holders, padfolios, Wedding Bouquet wraps, and wallets. But we can almost create just about any idea that you have. We are most proud of how far we have come with the leather business. Back in 23 my husband quit driving semi’s to stay home and help on the farm as well as run our leather business. I think what sets us apart is we really take pride in what we produce and it’s items that will turn into family heirlooms.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Really just reaching out to collab and work with. I’m a mom, wife and have a whole other life outside of Photography and Leather. So I’m not a huge social media influencer. I mean the tabs that are always running in my head are a lot sometimes. lol
The best support is word of mouth and sharing when I do post on socials.
