Today we’d like to introduce you to David Evanoff.
Hi David , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was a music student at the University of Utah in the 80’s. Studying music but graduated in film production. I got a gig playing music at Disneyland, which introduced me to the music production side of the entertainment industry. When I came home, I started my own recording and production studio specializing in music for film, TV, and special events, as well as audio post for TV and film. I just celebrated my 33rd year in business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At first, acquiring the capital and equipment to open a studio was difficult. This was the late 80’s, and large-format analog audio gear was the standard, still a few years before the digital revolution. With a personal investment and years of nonstop work, I kept the business rolling.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At first, I wrote jingles for small and large companies, starting locally in Utah and later expanding across the country. A few years in, I was fortunate to start working on music for Theme parks, National Bowl games, and later TV and film music and post-production.
I’ve worked on: Touched by an Angel, Promised Land, High School Musical, both TV and film. I’ve been awarded several Emmy Awards. I’m currently an audio post editor and mixer for the award-winning, 10-season-running Random Acts TV show.
Recently, I was awarded “Best Sound Design” at the Cannes Film Festival for a film I designed and mixed. America Boxed In.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
A music and film nerd. I spent most of my time practicing, playing, writing songs, and making little films.
I was friendly but shy. I had a tight group of musician friends that I still have today.
