Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenzie Moon.
Hi Kenzie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I originally started Wefts & Waves as a hair extension source for my own salon clients. At the time, I never imagined it would grow into what it is today. As I saw how much my clients loved the hair, I realized there was an opportunity to make high-quality extensions available to other hairstylists as well, and I slowly began transitioning Wefts & Waves into a wholesale extension company serving stylists across the country.
The beginning was definitely a slow build. I was working behind the chair during the day, and then coming home in the evenings to edit the website, pack and ship orders, answer messages, and work on whatever needed to be done for the business. There were so many nights where I was doing everything myself and trying to figure things out as I went.
Over time, the business really started to take off. Wefts & Waves continued to grow through word of mouth, relationships with stylists, and a lot of trial and error. What started as a small side business has grown far beyond what I ever imagined, and my husband now works alongside me in the business. I’m also traveling to salons to teach hair extension installation classes and have met so many amazing stylists. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch something that started with a simple idea become a company that supports stylists and their businesses all across the U.S.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I definitely wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road! We’ve had, and still have, some hiccups. Incorrect products have been shipped out, shipping delays beyond our control, not being able to keep things in stock. Luckily people are understanding most of the time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A large part of what I do personally is extension work behind the chair. I love creating transformations and, more than anything, seeing a client light up when they see their new hair for the first time. That experience is actually a big part of what inspired Wefts & Waves in the first place.
Today, Wefts & Waves is a wholesale hair extension company created specifically for hairstylists. We don’t sell directly to the general public. We work exclusively with licensed professionals. I think that is one of the things that really sets us apart. We understand the industry because we are in it. We’re not just a hair company selling a product; we’re stylists creating a company for other stylists.
Hairstylists really value having a hair extension company they can build a relationship with and trust. We want our customers to feel like they have a partner behind their business, not just a place to order hair. Because we sell directly to professionals and keep our focus on the stylist, we’re able to keep our costs competitive while maintaining the quality of our hair. At the end of the day, our goal is to provide stylists with beautiful, high-quality hair while helping them create amazing results for their own clients.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is providing hairstylists with the best possible hair at a price that makes sense for their businesses. I know firsthand how important it is to have hair you can trust, because I use extensions behind the chair myself. The quality of the hair directly impacts the results you’re able to give your clients, so that is something I never want to compromise on.
I also care deeply about keeping our stylists happy and making sure they feel supported. I want Wefts & Waves to be a company that stylists genuinely enjoy working with and feel confident coming back to. Building those relationships and knowing that our hair is helping other stylists grow their own businesses is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
